School and District News

Greetings Chapman Families,

We are coming to the end of the first month of 2021!  This time of year marks the end of one grading period and the beginning of a new one.  Remember, students have no school on Friday (01/29/2021); this will allow teachers to prepare report cards (information about the new report cards below).

Thank you for your support, patience, and commitment to public education as we await information related to Limited In Person Instruction (LIPI; information below).  Also, thank you for your patience while school campuses remain closed by the district in compliance with social-distancing orders from the state of Oregon (all compliance measures are taken in an effort to support public and school-personnel safety).

If you need library books, school supplies, or technology, please visit the front steps of the school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm.  Chapman Library Staff help provide this service in support of Comprehensive Distance Learning (remember to bring your previously checked-out books so you can swap for a new set of books). If you need to visit during other school-day times, please text (971) 710-6449 when you arrive; we may not hear knocking at the front door!  Each and every one of us look forward to the day when we return to the full usage of classrooms, school buildings, and campuses.  Until that day, we will work to keep you informed of recent updates, and provide school-related materials.

Dr. Martini
Assistant Principal

Chapman Elementary Updates:

Principal’s Coffee
Please join Principal Van Der Wolf (and bring your coffee) tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27th at 10:00am for updates and to connect with Chapman Elementary Community Members.  Information related to Limited In Person Instruction (LIPI) will be shared.  This meeting will be recorded for those of you who are unable to attend:

LIPI
The school district is starting the process of rolling out Limited In Person Instruction for K-3. We do not know an exact date yet when Chapman will be phased in. We are currently in the initial planning stages for this, but we are anticipating only being able to serve a small number of students. LIPI will be a supplement to distance learning and not a replacement for it, and it will only be offered for 1-2 hours on some afternoons. More information will be forthcoming.

Friendly House
Please click here to visit the Friendly House website for student-support opportunities.

West Sylvan Coffee Talk
West Sylvan is hosting a virtual Coffee Talk to all incoming 6th grade parents on Friday, January 29th at 9:30am. This will be a chance to meet the admin team and get questions answered and yet another opportunity to explore WS.

Report Cards

Dear K-5 Parents,
We are excited to share with you the new K-5 Report Card. The report card has been revised by a committee of teachers and parents with one of the main goals being to help families more easily understand how your students are doing as they progress through the elementary grades.  Click here to see the new report in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese. A highlight of the new report card is that there is now only one marking system for grades (E/M/CM/N/NE) and the +,V,/,-- system is now only for characteristics of a successful learner

Teachers will be using this new report card for Quarter 2 reporting. And you will receive the report card in early February.
