Dear friends,

Our 2021 hunting season is 1 month away and we are delighted to get underway and sit around the camp fire with our hunting friends.

For us the Covid-19 situation has been a moving target and we are following the latest regulations on a daily basis. As it stands now all hunts on the books can go ahead as planned and we are very thankful for this. Although traveling will be a new experience in 2021, after arriving in camp your hunt will go ahead as planned and for returning clients not much will be different.

As most of you already know hunting is one of the best ways the isolate and chances of contracting Covid-19 on your Safari are very small. We are confident that our hunters will have memorable hunts and we will get them to Africa and back without hick ups.

We would like to thank Ross Woolley our Client Coordinator and Linda Schrader our travel agent for guiding our clients through all these changes. The amount of re-scheduling, re-booking and re-doing has been a mountain of work and you have handled it like true champions!

The virus has effected us all in different ways and we all have different opinions on Covid-19. We at Sun Africa Safaris will take the necessary steps to cover all angles and make all hunters feel safe while hunting in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia.

Welcome to the Sun Africa Safaris Bubble

South African travel regulations are as follows:

  1. Anyone traveling to SA needs to have a certificate showing a negative COVID-19 test result not older than 72 hours from time of departure. Printed copy is preferable. If you do not have this you will need to do an antigen (blood test) on arrival at your own expense (Approximately 20 USD)
  2. During travel, wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet from people who are not traveling with you, wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer, and watch your health for signs of illness.
  3. Avoid contact with anyone who is sick.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  5. Do not travel if you are sick.
  6. Masks are Mandatory in all public spaces.

Upon arrival travellers wishing to enter SA will need to:

  1. Complete the traveller Health Entry Questionnaire (sa-covid-19-travel.info)
  2. Have the questionnaire verified by a Port Health official.
  3. Undergo a health screening by a port health official, including a temperature reading.

Health screening outcome:

  1. If you are low risk, you can continue your travels.
  2. If you have symptoms, you will need to have a covid-19 test at your own cost. If positive, you will need to quarantine for 10 days at your own cost.

Contact tracing:

  1. Travellers will be asked to download the COVID Alert SA contact tracing app.

Once you arrive at the Port Elizabeth/East London Airport your Professional Hunter will be waiting for you outside the terminal building. These airports are very small so do not be concerned that you will get lost. Go directly out of the arrival terminal to the outside of the building. Covid-19 protocol does not allow us to be inside the airport waiting for you. We will ensure that you have cellphone contact with the professional hunter before you arrive as well.

Your Professional hunter will be tested covid-19 negative upon your arrival. Vehicles will be sanitized and clean upon your arrival. You have now entered the Sun Africa Safaris “bubble”.

We will continue directly to the safari lodge while maintaining all covid-19 protocols. Upon arrival at the lodge hand sanitizer and protective masks will be available in all rooms and the lodge will be sanitized after every Safari as necessary. Please do bring your own hand sanitizer and Masks as well.

All of our camp staff and trackers will be tested covid-19 negative upon your arrival at the lodge. They are also in the Sun Africa Bubble.

We monitor all of our Professional Hunters, trackers and staff’s health throughout the safari to ensure that there is no chance of you contracting the virus while you are in the Sun Africa Safaris Bubble.

On the second last day (depending on your travel itinerary) of your safari we will arrange a drive thru PCR covid-19 test in the local town closest to us. This will ensure that before traveling back to the United States, Canada and Mexico you get tested with a viral test 1–3 days before international travel. This is a requirement by the CDC. Cost of this test will be +-US$30.

CDC recommends that you have another Covid-19 Test done 3-5 days after your arrival in the United States.

We thank you for your cooperation and we are excited for your arrival.
