February 2021

Mayor’s Message

I think we can all agree that we have been experiencing our own version of ‘Groundhog Day’ over the last several months, as the pandemic continues to impact our daily lives. We are ready to come out of our homes and enjoy the various activities, places and people we have missed due to these changes in our routines. With spring still many weeks away, the cold temperatures and cloudy days only add to the feeling of waiting and wishing for change. No one is immune to these feelings... especially as we turn the calendar pages in 2021.

However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Multiple COVID-19 vaccines have been approved for use, and plans are rolling out across the state for Ohioans to access this resource. I am optimistic we will see an improvement within the coming months, which will help to relieve the pressure on families and businesses alike. Until then, we must practice patience and continue to follow public health precautions: wear your mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands regularly and avoid large group gatherings.

We can do this together.

Mayor Kevin M. Kennedy

COVID-19 Updates
Coronavirus Updates
Ohio is distributing the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine statewide to those who choose to be vaccinated. Plan 1B details were announced and the tentative dates to start vaccinating the Phase 1B populations are:
  • February 1, 2021 – Ohioans 70 years of age and older; employees of K-12 schools that wish to remain or return to in-person or hybrid models
  • February 8, 2021 – Ohioans 65 years of age and older
  • February 15, 2021 – Ohioans with severe congenital, developmental, or early-onset, and inherited conditions including cerebral palsy; spina bifida; severe congenital heart disease requiring hospitalization within the past year; severe type 1 diabetes requiring hospitalization within the past year; inherited metabolic disorders including phenylketonuria; severe neurological disorders including epilepsy, hydrocephaly, and microcephaly; severe genetic disorders including Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, Turner syndrome, and muscular dystrophy; severe lung disease, including asthma requiring hospitalization within the past year, and cystic fibrosis; sickle cell anemia; and alpha and beta thalassemia; and solid organ transplant patients. If people believe they fit in this category, they should contact their local board of developmental disabilities, which will help coordinate vaccinations.
Vaccine recipients must be age 16 or older to be eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, and age 18 or older to be eligible for the Moderna vaccine. Local boards of developmental disabilities will reach out to individuals who meet eligibility requirements to coordinate vaccinations. These boards will work with children’s hospitals and some local health departments on scheduling. Only those individuals in this population that work with their local developmental disabilities board will be eligible for vaccination at this time.
When a new age group begins, vaccinations may not be complete for the previous age group. It will take a number of weeks to distribute all of the vaccine given the limited doses available. Groups defined by age will receive the vaccine from physicians, local health departments, hospitals, federally-qualified health centers, in-home health service providers and some retail pharmacies. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has provided a list of vaccine providers in Cuyahoga County. Eligible individuals must contact the provider of their choice directly.

Ohioans can also use the provider search at coronavirus.ohio.gov to find a provider in their area to administer the vaccine. More information about the vaccine and plan can be found in the Myth vs. Facts document and at coronavirus.ohio.gov.
