Holocaust Memorial Day

The service for Holocaust Memorial Day is an online Reflection, recorded in the Cathedral. It will be live on Derby HMD's YouTube channel at 6.00 pm on Wednesday 27th January. The text of the Dean's address in the online Reflection will be in the Flag next week.
On the same channel, from 24th January, you can watch the virtual QUAD HMD event with music, dance and spoken word elements.
There is no service this year at the Bridge Chapel, but stones will be set privately at the memorial trees on Cathedral Green. This year's HMD theme is 'Be the Light in the Darkness'. To mark this, everyone is invited to light a candle at 8.00 pm on Wednesday 27th January and put it in the window. (Be safe - don't leave candles burning unattended.)

Malcolm Macnaughton to be licensed this week

Malcolm’s consecration as a bishop and his installation at Derby Cathedral have been postponed because of the current restrictions.

To allow Malcolm to begin his ministry in the Diocese of Derby, he will be licensed, via Zoom, as Bishop-designate this Thursday, 28 January.

Please pray for Malcolm as he begins this next chapter of his service to the Church and diocese.

Details of the re-arranged consecration and installation will be circulated in due course.

Generous giving webinars

The National Giving team is proud to offer a series of free webinars to help churches encourage giving and grow generosity. In these webinars you will be guided through ways to encourage giving, such as online, contactless and legacy giving, as well as how to save money with Parish Buying. To register visit here.

Practical Path checklist - Net Zero Carbon

There is now a self-guided checklist for churches who want as easy way to review their buildings against the Practical Path to Net Zero Carbon.  There are two versions; one for printing and one for completing on screen. You can find them on the net zero carbon church landing page and on the Practical Path page.

This will be a useful resource, as a first step for churches that want to get started and aren’t sure how.  The completed forms could also be useful attachments to faculty applications, especially if the church is applying for environmentally motivated projects. The Practical Path now has numbered dotpoints, to make it easier for cross-referencing with other documents.

NHS Scam Advice

Some very good scams are circulating by email regarding Covid 19 vaccination forms. These are identical to real NHS forms but the submit button is changed to continue. This takes you to a page asking that you fill in bank details in case of future charges. The emails look as if they come from "noreply@nhs" but if you click on that address it shows the true address, in the example we have been sent it was "kanda@ visceral.co.jp". Please be careful and don't enter personal information into emails unless you are certain of the source. NHS vaccinations are free.
