THE NAVIGATOR

A Reason to Hope

It is hard to believe we have already passed the 100th day of school milestone.  So much has changed this year and when, and how, it will change back is still unclear.  Many activities and events have been cancelled or modified to meet the new COVID protocols.  But through it all, our primary objective of educating our students in Light of Christ has remained strong.  Our students continue to grow academically and spiritually.  They have also learned what it means to be socially responsible by wearing a mask and social distancing to protect their classmates.  They have remained positive and have learned that counting your blessings brings more happiness than counting the costs.   I wish more people in this world were as resilient, adaptable,  faithful, and caring as our students.  Knowing they will  be able to utilize the academic and life lessons they are learning now to lead our world in the future, should give us all a reason to hope.

For the LOVE of Our Teachers

National Day of Giving

February 2nd is the National Day of Giving, and this year all donations go directly to the OLG bonus fund. Since it's not possible to have a Gala this year, we decided to show our appreciation for teachers by using the Day of Giving donations for the teachers' bonus. The year 2020 brought many challenges to our world and to the educational community, and the teachers at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School continue to face the educational challenges presented by COVID-19 as a team.

Please join us in recognizing our dedicated teachers by participating in the Day of Giving at https://factsmgtadmin.com/give/appeal/ELEu99mER
or by making a cash donation toward this year’s teacher bonus fund.

Thank you for your support of our teachers and may God bless your generosity.

For fun, the faculty created their own Bitmojis.

Can you guess who is who?

Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee was different this year as everyone continues to adapt to different circumstances. Rather than an audience, we had a livestream so parents could watch the spellers.

Congratulations to our top three winners (tied for 1st) - Katie C., Olivia H. and Stella N. and also to our alternate, Ella L.  All of these ladies are in the 5th grade and will be going onto the Calhoun County Spelling Bee February 5th.

Celebrating 100 Days of School

Students celebrated 100 days of school.  From making pizza to projects and dancing, it was a day of celebration!  (Check out our Facebook page for more pictures.)

MathCounts Team

The OLG MathCounts Team is getting ready for their district competition that will be held virtually on February 6th.  The top OLG student from this meet will move on to the State level competition!  Good luck Mariners!

Christ is the Source...

Let us work together to keep each other safe - social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands, and coming together to do what's best for our children and families. In the midst of all trials, let us choose love.

The Diocese of Victoria is celebrating the Year of the Family. Beginning in October, families will monthly explore an area of our faith and participate in activities that will help them to PrayEat, and Play together. See https://victoriadiocese.org/year-of-the-family

Prayer for the Family

Lord Jesus, be with my family. Grant us Your peace and harmony, an end to conflict and division. Gift us with the compassion to better understand each other, the wisdom and love to assist each other, and the trust and patience to live peacefully together. Grant that, through the intercession of Your mother, Mary, and St. Joseph our family too may become a holy family, accepting each other, working together in unity, and selflessly dedicated to one another and to You.
Amen

School Advisory Council

We are most grateful for the SAC members, who meet monthly to ensure that we can continue to provide a faith-based education to every child whose family so desires.
Covid Task Force

We are also grateful for Covid Task Force members, who contribute their medical expertise to lead us safely through these times. They meet monthly or as needed to continue to help ensure the safety of students and staff.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our donors.

Your generosity makes it possible for our school to provide a loving and productive environment in which students can grow in the Light of Christ.
