Ash Wednesday & Lenten Program
Ash Wednesday
Due to ongoing high numbers of Coronavirus infections, we are going to adapt our Ash Wednesday practices to meet both the needs of marking this Church holy day and public safety.
The Ash Wednesday liturgy will be available to watch online on Ash Wednesday, February 17 at any point, though it will "premiere" at 7:30am, 12noon, and 7pm if you prefer to watch at the same time as others do in order to have a digital connection as you worship. Blessed ashes will be available for pickup on Saturday, February 13 from 10am-12pm or Sunday, February 14 from 2-4pm on the front lawn. Fr. Robert will distribute small bags of ash along with a prayer card. You can put the ashes on yourself or on those in your household at anytime on Ash Wednesday and use the prayers on the card, or you can wait until the time of imposition during the livestreamed to do so. When you pick up ashes, please wear a mask at all times and maintain 6+ feet of distance from those not in your household. If you would like ashes, but cannot come and pick them up, please let Fr. Robert know and we can arrange to mail them to you.
Lenten Program
Though we cannot physically gather, Lent remains an important season of preparation. This year, we will gather on Zoom to discuss the Archbishop of Canterbury's commissioned Lenten Book, which for 2021 is Living His Story: Revealing the Extraordinary Love of God in Ordinary Ways, by the Rev. Hannah Steele. If you'd like to shop locally, the book can be ordered through South Main Book Co. (704-630-9788). You can also order a digital (e-reader) copy through SMBC at this link.
If you would like to participate but cannot afford to purchase the book, please let Fr. Robert know and he will be happy to get a copy to you.
This year, we will meet on Thursdays from 7-8pm beginning with prayer and then continuing with our discussion.

This book will lead our discussion about the powerful and transformative love of God in our world and how this light is intended to shine into all the world. These conversations will also prepare us to more fully receive and share with joy the Good News of Easter morning that the Lord is risen.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Reconciliation, or Confession as it is often called, will be available by appointment instead of drop-in this Lent. Fr. Robert can arrange for either in-person (but distanced) Confession or it can be done on Zoom. If you want to learn more about this Rite, you can read this chapter from the Rev. Martin Smith's Reconciliation: Preparing for Confession in the Episcopal Church. Please contact Father Robert if you have any questions or would like to schedule a time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Offering Envelopes
If you requested envelopes for your 2021 pledges, they are available in the church office. Please note that the Canterbury House is not open for regular hours, so you will need to contact Tracey, our Office Manager to make arrangements to pick up the envelopes or have them mailed to you.

The schedule, through the end of March, has been updated on the Lay Ministry spreadsheet. Please review this. At this time, all readings are to be sent in as videos to Caroline by Thursday of each week. Upload videos to this Dropbox link. News from The Foundation
Two nominations have been received for the two open positions on the Board of Trustees for the St. Luke's Foundation. Members of St. Luke's are asked to complete the poll found at THIS LINK to assist in appointing these nominees to the Board of Trustees. The poll will be open through February 10th. The new Trustees will be announced on Foundation Sunday, February 14th. Please reach out to Foundation President, George Simons or Administrative Assistant, Caroline Stephenson with any questions.

Lori Van Wallendael
I have been an Associate Professor of Psychological Science at UNC Charlotte since 1986. I and my husband Shawn moved to North Carolina from Illinois, and after a few years in Charlotte, settled in Gold Hill. Salisbury quickly became our “home away from home” thanks to its vibrant theatre scene. Finding a church home took a little longer, but thanks to warm invitations from friends, I and my daughter Courtney began attending St. Luke’s regularly in February, 2012. I made it official and was confirmed at St. Luke’s in March 2018. You may know my face from Piedmont Players, Lee Street Theatre, and the Phoenix Readers, and I have served on the Board of Governors at Piedmont Players Theatre several times, including as its current President. At St. Luke’s, I have been a member of the parish choir and am a current member of the Canterbury Ringers, and I would love to become more active in the spiritual life of this beloved community. Even now when we are “socially distant,” St. Luke’s remains my rock!
Jennifer McKinney
My name is Jennifer McKinney. We (my husband and children) have been members at St. Luke's for about 4 years. I have felt called to serve at St. Luke's in several capacities over the years (lector, greeter, handbell choir). I have a background in secondary education, personal/professional experience with diversity and inclusion, and significant understanding of various farming practices. I believe my unique background and experiences would enable me to be discerning in both the administrative and grant selection duties of a foundation member.

Birthday Prayer
As you know, each Sunday we pray for those with a birthday in the previous and upcoming week. We very much hope to include every member of St. Luke's in these prayers; however, we can only include people for whom we have a date of birth on file. If you are not included in the prayer, please know it is not an intentional omission, it just means that our records don't have your date of birth. If you would like us to have this so we can include you in the prayers, you can add it by logging into our Church Directory and updating your profile, or you can add it in your Realm account. Or, contact Caroline so that she can update our database for you.

Pastoral Care
Ministering to the sick and those in crisis is an important part of the ministry of St. Luke’s. If you know of a parishioner who is in the hospital, is ill, or has other pastoral needs, please notify the clergy. Please don’t assume that someone else will notify us. We would rather hear from several people than not know when a member of our congregation needs a clergy visit. If you would like to have someone added to prayer list, after you have his/her permission, please contact the clergy or office staff. Those listed in the “crisis” section will be on the list for one month, after which they can be added again if the crisis continues; otherwise, they can be moved to the “ongoing” section. Please also help us by letting us know when we can remove someone from the list.
