Highways.Today Newsletter

28 January 2021

Welcome to another Highways.Today newsletter.

One of the big trends for 2021 is Artificial Intelligence and Smart Highway technology. Every week I am receive more and more news with the latest exciting advancements.

This week I was introduced to two new FLIR AI controlled Traffic Cameras, designed to bring intelligent and predictive traffic management to our roads and intersections. Read more below.

Using AI to analyse the floods of data being collected in real-time opens up a world of possibilities for Smart Highways and Smart Cities, but it also creates a huge cybersecurity issue. Thankfully this is now being addressed with smart IoT devices being designed with embedded security to keep the hackers out.

Thanks again and stay safe.

FLIR introduces AI controlled Traffic Cameras for Predictive Traffic Management

FLIR AI Traffic Cameras

FLIR Systems has introduced two new intelligent traffic system cameras - the FLIR ThermiCam™ AI with thermal imaging and the FLIR TrafiCam™ AI visible camera.

Both camera systems feature artificial intelligence to optimize the traffic flows from roadways and intersections. When the data is combined with the FLIR Acyclica™ cloud platform, smart cities can apply the intelligent camera data to predict traffic, prevent congestion, reduce potential accidents, and create much safer roads for both drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Thermal Imaging

Combined with the ability to capture heat imaging data through a thermal sensor within the ThermiCam AI, and a visible low-light, high-definition sensor within the TrafiCam AI, Smart Cities traffic signals can have complete and continuous monitoring, in all weather conditions, and even through smoke in tunnel monitoring situations.
