Do More 24

What is Do More 24?
Do More 24 is a Statewide 24 hour day of giving designed to help nonprofits raise funds & engage new donors. 100s of Delaware nonprofits participate each year, making this one of the largest single days of giving of the year!

Who Hosts/Organizes Do More 24?
Do More 24 is hosted by the United Way of Delaware and Spur Impact.

Date & Time
March 4th at 6pm and ends on March 5th at 6pm. Donations can be made any time from now, 2/1/2021, until March 5th. Any donation we receive from now, until March 5th at 6pm, will be matched!

Why Donate?
Life continues to remain difficult for many families in Delaware. As vaccines are rolled out, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, however, many of Delaware’s families are still struggling. Unemployment remains high and affordable housing remains scarce. The pandemic has exacerbated a crisis of affordable housing in Delaware. As a result, the cost to house families has risen quite substantially.  Families needs us, they need you, and this is perfect opportunity to help.

Everyone who donates will receive a Family Promise NNCC themed reusable grocery bag!

Matching Donations
Our Board will be matching $10,000 in donations.
GGB Bearings will be matching $5,000 in donations.

Financial Prizes
The United Way & Spur Impact will be awarding nonprofits financial prizes through out the event. By donating from now until March 6th, you will help us win financial prizes - so not only will your donation be matched, but you’ll also help us win a variety prizes that will possibly triple your impact! Annual Celebration

2020 was certainly not the year any of us expected it to be. We faced challenge after challenge, but we persevered, pivoted, and tweaked our programs to ensure we were always able to continue serving families. At our Annual Celebration, we will discuss our successes, challenges, program pivots, program performance, and our financials from 2020, in addition to a roadmap of where we’re going in 2021.

Our Director of Family Services, Wendell Covell will speak in depth about our four programs; The Hospitality Network, the Hospitality Center, Pathway to Housing, and the Pathway to Diversion. Wendell will address the challenges our programs faced in 2020, how we overcame these challenges, and how our programs are doing to date. We’ll also discuss what program changes we’re considering in 2021, to ensure we can continue serving families effectively.

If you’re interested in learning more about anything listed above, please join us! Our Annual Celebration will be on Tuesday, March 9th at 6pm. Our celebration will be online, via Zoom, making it easy to attend!

Highmark Health Funds Mental Health

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware recently awarded Family Promise of Northern New Castle County, Inc. with a grant from BluePrints for the Community. BluePrints for the Community, housed by the Delaware Community Foundation, has contributed over $17 million to the community since its inception in 2007. It was established to serve Delawareans, with emphasis on, but not limited to, the needs of the uninsured and underserved, and to reduce health care disparities in minority population and address social determinants of health.

The specific grant awarded to Family Promise NNCC is designed to help our organization tackle mental health/behavioral challenges faced by families experiencing homelessness. Mental health/behavioral issues, already a substantial challenge in normal times, have been greatly exacerbated by the pandemic. This grant will help us better tailor our services to families facing a mental health/behavioral issue.

Re-Usable Grocery Bags

We now have Family Promise themed re-usable grocery bags! We provide every family we assist secure housing with food and basic home goods such as dish and silverware sets. We'll now be providing these basic goods to families in re-usable grocery bags. As plastic bags are now banned in Delaware, we believe providing re-usable grocery bags to our families will ensure they have one less thing to worry about once they're in permanent housing!

If you'd like one of your own, make sure you donate towards Do More 24! Our Development Director will deliver your bag in Mid March.

Evicted During a Pandemic

Below is a great video put together by VICE. The video sheds light on what it's like to be evicted during a pandemic. This is a great video to gain a better understanding of the challenges some members of our community are facing.
