Have you, like me, spent a lot of energy trying to avoid the darkness?
We don’t want to be there “too long”, or we think that something is wrong - with ourselves, with the people around us, with the world. It’s uncomfortable, so we resist it, we push it away.
We think there is something wrong with us because we feel sad, anxious, confused, or angry. We judge ourselves as broken because we can’t “move on” or be happy all the time. Some of us don’t even allow negative thoughts: we make ourselves “bad” or “wrong” when we have them. But we all have them, so how can something so innate to everyone be so easily dismissed as exclusively unacceptable?
Either/Or vs. Both/And
We are socialized to make judgments and decisions based on “should” or “should not,” which creates an inner divide. It makes us think we need to choose between one or the other, Darkness OR Light.
What if we learned to ALLOW BOTH into our experience without making any of it be wrong? Learning to hold the Both/And (Dark and Light in this context) is the challenge, but when you learn to do it, you truly allow your inner glow to flow outward, touching your own heart, and the world around you with Light and Love.
In the Intentional Creativity® process I’ve prepared for you, you will learn the practice of holding space for Both/And. When you bring the Dark and the Light together without apology, you move from divided duality to united paradox by allowing yourself to acknowledge, respect and live in balance with ideas and feelings that may have previously felt contradictory.
In the spirit of acknowledging and embracing all of who we are without making any f it wrong, I leave you with the lyrics of Never One Thing by May Erlewine
I'm the underbelly, I am the claw Never one thing no, not one thing at all
I'm a street fighter, I'm a prayer for peace
I'm a holy roller, I'm a honey bee
I am the truth, I am a lie I am the ground, I am the sky I am the silence, I am the call Never one thing no, not one thing at all I am hope, I am defeat I am broken, I am complete I am the grace, I am the fall Never one thing no, not one thing at all I am the beggar, I am the queen I am the end, I am the means I am the hammer, I am the wall Never one thing no, not one thing at all I am the victor, I am the loss I am the profit, I am the cost I am the salve, I am the sting Never, no never, no never one thing I am the mother, I am the child I am the meek, I am the wild I am the witch, I am the saint I am alive, never one thing I am the lion, I am the swan I am the bull, I am the fawn I am the woman, I am the ring I am my own, never one thing
