Hazard Identification is the first step in our Haz ID & Mitigation process. This part of the process is used to evaluate if any particular situation, item, thing, etc. may have the potential to cause harm or a mishap. While many questions go into this step, below are two questions that will help you identify hazards.
|
|
What materials or equipment could I be struck by?
- moving objects (e.g., forklifts, vehicles, bicycles)
- flying objects (e.g., sparks or shards from grinding)
- falling material (e.g., equipment from above)
What objects or equipment could I strike, or get caught in, on, or between?
- stationary or moving objects
- sharp or jagged edges
- pinch points on machines (places where parts are very close together)
- moving objects (chains, belts, ropes, etc.)
- vehicles
Overall, the goal of hazard identification is to find all possible hazards that may be present in the Facilities Division to prevent a mishap or injury. We will address new questions each week for the next few weeks to help us increase our awareness and better identify hazards in our area.
