Keep up the good work!!

Waynesville Elementary
Screening for Gifted Identification
Grades 2-5

WES does whole grade screening for gifted identification in grades 2-5.

Grades 2 through 5 take the IOWA.
The Iowa Achievement test assists us in determining at what level your child is performing based on national comparisons.  As an achievement test, Iowa assesses a student's relative knowledge at the time of assessment and compares that performance against peers across the nation (known as a norming group). Scores for the Iowa are generally noted as Percentile Ranks (NPR) and indicates how your student compared with students in the same grade who took the same assessment at a comparable time.

Grades 2, 3, and 5 also take the CogAT.
Unlike the Iowa assessment, which is achievement based, the CogAT is a school ability test. The Standard Age Score (SAS) is an age-based, normalized standard score with a mean (average) of 100. The student's SAS score is derived from the Verbal, Quantitative, Nonverbal, and Total scores. Like the Iowa, percentile ranks are also reported to indicate how your child performed in relation to grade-level and like-age peers who were assessed on the same measure at a comparable time.

IN PERSON LEARNERS
The following testing schedule will be used for IOWA/CogAT testing for our in person learners.  Please try to avoid scheduling appointments on testing days.

Grade 2:  Monday and Tuesday, February 8-9
Grade 3:  Monday and Tuesday, February 22-23
Grade 4:  Thursday and Friday, February 25-26
Grade 5:  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, February 16-18

VLA LEARNERS
The following testing schedule will be used for IOWA/CogAT testing for our VLA learners.

Grade 2:  Friday, February 12 8:30-4:00
Grade 3:  Wednesday, February 24, 8:30-4:00
Grade 4:  Thursday, February 11, 8:30-4:00
Grade 5:  Friday, February 19, 8:30-4:00

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 and, for nearly a century, have inspired bold ideas in creative teens throughout the country.  As the nation’s longest-running awards in the field, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are widely considered to be the most prestigious recognition program for creative teens.

Part of the submission process to the Awards is determining which image best fulfills the Scholastic Awards criteria: originality, technical skill, and emergence of a personal vision.

Vaccination for COVID-19 in Warren County

The Warren  County Health District (WCHD) is continuing its COVID-19 Vaccination Program for those individuals who are in Phase 1A as determined by the Ohio Department of Health. Phase 1A population groups are defined as healthcare providers and long-term care facility staff and residents who provide direct medical care.

According to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Ohio will be distributing 100,000 doses of vaccine statewide beginning next week for the next phase of Ohio’s vaccine distribution list.  Warren County will receive 1,600 of those doses.  The WCHD will receive 100 of those doses next week.  The remaining 1,500 doses will go to:

  • Kroger Pharmacies (seven locations)
  • Discount Drug Mart Inc (two locations)
  • Atrium Medical Center
  • HealthSource of Ohio

How do you get vaccinated if eligible?

WCHD asks for your patience as we continue to work through this process on vaccinating Phases 1A & 1B priority groups.  It is important to get as many people vaccinated.  Please continue to wear your mask, wash your hands, and stay home if you are sick.  We need to work together, Warren County.

Update from:
WARREN COUNTY CAREER CENTER (WCCC)

Still waiting!- Application Site

Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the application site to open. We are working closely with our developer and they are well aware of the urgency to open the application site. While we are behind the time we usually open, we are optimistic that students will still apply. In fact, we've had many students and parents reach out to us ready to apply the minute the site opens.

A few people have felt nervous about the timing because of a common misconception that many people have. I want to make sure that everyone knows that our application process is NOT first come first serve.

Any student that applies before our priority deadline of February 12 (before 11:59 pm) will be assessed equally. Whether a student applies on January 12 or Feb 12, they have the same chance of getting into their first-choice program. The only thing that matters is their rubric score.

After Feb. 12, we will of course we welcome applications and will continue to assess and place students until programs are full.

With that said, while we typically have much more time for applicants to apply, there will still be nearly 30 days for applicants to apply prior to the priority deadline. The application will still be very quick and straightforward, taking most students less than 10 minutes to apply.
