THE POPE VIDEO FOR FEBRUARY 2021
For women who are victims of violence

The Pope regarding violence against women: “We cannot look the other way.”

The Pope Video for February sends out a powerful message against the various kinds of violence against women. In the face of this “degradation of all humanity,” the Holy Father asks that women be protected by society and that their sufferings be heeded by all.

Through this month's prayer intention, Pope Francis is entrusting this prayer to the entire Catholic Church through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network. It is a powerful message against the violence that millions of women suffer daily: “psychological violence, verbal violence, physical violence, sexual violence.” For Pope Francis, these abuses are “acts of cowardice and a degradation of all humanity.” Consequently, he asks us to pray for the victims, “that they may be protected by society and have their sufferings considered and heeded by all.”

Intention: Let us pray for women who are victims of violence, that they may be protected by society and have their sufferings considered and heeded by all.

"Today, there continue to be women who suffer violence. Psychological violence, verbal violence, physical violence, sexual violence.
It’s shocking how many women are beaten, insulted, and raped.
The various forms of ill-treatment that many women suffer are acts of cowardice and a degradation of all humanity. Of men and of all humanity.
The testimonies of the victims who dare to break their silence are a cry for help that we cannot ignore.
We must not look the other away."

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY 2021

Through the highs and lows of the pandemic, it is vital to take the time to strengthen the love that unites couples and families. Celebrate your love or the love of a couple dear to you on Sunday, February 14, World Marriage Day!

On Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 5 p.m. Archbishop Christian Lépine will celebrate a special mass at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral. It will be livestreamed on the diocesan YouTube channel. Consider renewing your wedding vows, receive a special blessing and pray for couples and families! Persons who are separated/divorced and wish to renew their fidelity to their vows are also invited to do so.

This year, we also celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first wedding celebrated in New France, which took place on August 26, 1621!

Why not plan a special moment, as a couple or as a family, to celebrate the Love that has brought you together on your wedding day and to nurture or re-establish your connection with Christ!

World Marriage Day is celebrated annually throughout the world on the second Sunday of February. It honours husband and wife as the foundation of the family – the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice, and joy in daily married life. In 1993, St. John Paul II imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day.

For more information, please contact the Diocesan Centre for Marriage, Life and the Family at centredmvf@diocesemontreal.org or by calling 514 925 4300, ext. 233.
