February Newsletter
Dear GRC Members:
As the days get longer we can start to look towards warmer weather, even if our thermometers are telling us otherwise at the moment. Here's what's happening around the club.

Row Ontario Profile
As a follow up to the January newsletter, the folks at Row Ontario are regularly profiling clubs across Ontario. They decided to start the year with a bang by focussing on Guelph Rowing Club. We agree that it was a fine choice! Read the story here. Thanks to JoAnne for her great contribution.

Edon Stable Sculls
We are delighted to let you know that the club has purchased two Edon stable sculls, one of which was purchased through the generous donations of our members. Based on helpful input from Row Ontario and positive experiences at Calgary and Argonaut rowing clubs, we believe these two new shells, along with the Ollie and BHB, will allow us to offer smaller and more nimble Learn to Row opportunities. The goal is ultimately to make it easier for new rowers to join our club. This also allows us the opportunity to potentially offer a summer youth camp. We have additionally applied for summer student funding to support  these program and are eagerly awaiting a response.

High School Rowers Compete Virtually
Six high school students competed at the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships February 7.  This year’s competition had the rowers logging on through their ergometers hooked up to their computers and rowing without the typical cheers and encouragement of their colleagues. The athletes did very well, with one top ten place and a number of personal bests.  The coaches are proud of all the athletes for competing under such different circumstances.
