4 Things To Do To Speed Up The Process Of Building A New Web Site

Why does it take so long to make a web site?

So many things to consider. It's not just design, nor even content. It's SEO, using social media, forms, on-site search, web hosting, performance, security and oh, did I forget mobile?

Makes me long for the good old days of sites made with HTML files.

As one who has created sites for individuals and small businesses and organizations I just had to share my thoughts on this subject and what you can do to speed up development time.
So, Why?
How Fast Do Your Pages Load?

We've known for some time that Google places much weight in its algorithms on how fast your pages download.

It's been a major ranking signal but it's about to become even more so starting in May of this year.

I love the GTmetrix speed testing tool because it's not just easy to use. It will assign "low, medium and high" ratings to the issues it discovers and tell you - in plain English - what you can do to resole the problems.

If you're pages are slow pokes or if you care about speed this is the tool for you. The more I used it the more I couldn't resist recommending it for you.

How To Optimize Your Homepage

I love this new post from Yoast, leaders in optimizing pages for search.

There's a lot of good back to the basics takeaways. Are you still using "Welcome to our site" language? Are you making it clear what your selling proposition is? What is unique about your product or service? What are you doing to garner trust from your readers, prospects or customers?

Lots of smart advice. Has your site gotten away from these good ideas or have never used them at all?
