Welcome back to the LVRG!

I hope you enjoyed delving into the '100 Novels That Shaped Our World', which books would make your list?

This month's choice is... Northern Lights by Philip Pullman

The first book in Pullman's hugely popular His Dark Materials trilogy, set in a parallel universe.

The story of young Lyra journeying from Oxford to the Arctic in search of her missing friend has been turned into a successful movie, and the BBC made two series of a well-received TV programme.

Find out what all the fuss is about; get the eAudiobook from Borrowbox or the eBook from CloudLibrary, for free.

Coffee Morning has gone Virtual!

We'll be holding the next virtual coffee morning on Friday the 5th of February, 10-11.

It would be lovely to see you and have a catch up!

The meeting will be over Zoom, so you can join in using a phone, tablet or computer.

Let me know you'd like to join by emailing Library_volunteers@bathnes.gov.uk and I will send you the secure link.
Revitalised Competition

Give life to an old book!

We are holding an online art competition for LibrariesWest members to create a piece of art from an ex-book or other reading material based on the term “Revitalised” and exploring what that means.

There will be one winner from each category and they will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend at Minerva Art Supplies, Bath. There will also be one runner-up from each category who will receive a £10 gift voucher.

The competition closes on the 21st of February and the winners will be announced on the 11th March, 2021.

To find out how to enter, visit: bathneslibraries.wordpress.com/revitalised-recycle-a-book-competition
Children's Mental Health Week

Running 1st - 7th of February, this year the theme of the week is 'Express Yourself' and
childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk  has loads of great resources for children, parents and carers. There are also some brilliant online training sessions and conferences, all free!

Storytelling Week

30th January to 6th February is National Storytelling Week and the Virtual Library will be having a celebration!

Across the week there will be interviews with local storytellers and videos of short passages read by some of you, so keep an eye on our social media and blog. You can read our interview with Mendip Storytelling Circle here.
Help Needed!

We have been exploring ways to identify and measure the value of the Home Library Service, so we can make sure it's fulfilling it's purpose and make any improvements.

Working with a focus group of HLS volunteers, readers and staff we have created an online survey that would be filled in annually by volunteers, and now we need testers!

We need different testers to ensure that the survey is easy to understand and use, and that we get useful data.

We would really appreciate it if you could click the link below and fill in the form, it should only take about ten minutes!

You don't need to be an HLS volunteer and it doesn't have to be about an actual reader - just imagine you visit someone and answer the questions!

If you have any thoughts or feedback on the survey you can add them in the 'thoughts' section at the bottom of the survey, or email us.
Thank you!

Did you know...

We're launching a brand new outreach programme aimed at tackling social isolation in the community through shared reading - and it's not restricted to books!
Keep an eye on your email inbox as we'll soon be sending out the details of how you can get involved.

In the mean time, you can find out more about the programme here: readingfriends.org.uk
Thank you!

A big thank you to those who have taken part in our Storytelling Week readings, to those who continue to do book drops, to those in our HLS focus group and to those running our online groups.

Your help in the past year has made a huge difference to what we have been able to offer our community.

Best wishes,
The B&NES Library Team.
