LNVH Newsletter January 2021
Read the Dutch version in our archive

The Dutch Network of Women Professors was founded in 2001, which means the network will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The LNVH started informally in the 1990s and became a foundation on August 9 2001. Today, our network exists of over 1400 female professors and associate professors from all universities and research institutions in the Netherlands and has developed an impressive list of impactful activities, initiatives and partnerships. Hopefully, we will be able to celebrate this anniversary in person this Spring, together with our affiliates, partners and friends of the network. Until then, keep an eye out for our website for updates and related events.

Are you a female (associate) professor, but not yet an affiliate? Join our LNVH network!

The 9th Call for applications of the Netherlands L’Oréal Unesco For Women in Science fellowships 2021 is open. The fellowship allows excellent female scientists to boost their career. Two fellowships of 25.000 euros are available to women active in the field of life sciences, who have between 3 and 10 years post-PhD academic experience.

According to our Women Professors Monitor 2020, only 24.2% of Dutch professors are women, which puts the Netherlands at the bottom of the ranking compared to other European countries. The For Women in Science programme aims to boost scientific careers of women and as such, aims to contribute to an increase of top level women scientists.

The LNVH is proud partner of the Dutch fellowship programme, which is coordinated by the Netherlands Commission for Unesco and L’Oréal Netherlands in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS-KNAW). Laureates are awarded a residential fellowship for a semester at NIAS-KNAW in Amsterdam, and are provided a place to think, study and write, while being released from regular responsibilities such as teaching, administrative or clinical tasks. NIAS-KNAW offers an inspiring workplace in an interdisciplinary and international environment. If needed, accommodation can be provided.

Call open: NIAS-Lorentz Theme Groups

Call for NIAS-Lorentz Theme Group (NLTG) is open. An NLTG is an international group of three researchers including the coordinator. All NLTG members hold fellowships at NIAS, providing them the opportunity to work as a team and engage in the kind of intensive interdisciplinary collaboration that is often difficult to realize in a regular academic setting. A NIAS-Lorentz Theme Group is initiated by the coordinator. The coordinator has at least 5 years of postdoctoral research experience and is affiliated with a university or research institution. Researchers from abroad may also coordinate the NLTG provided they apply together with a researcher who is based in the Netherlands (co-coordinator). The coordinator is the formal NLTG applicant and he/she puts forward the other NLTG members.

For information and advice on NLTG Fellowship applications, please contact Dindy van Maanen. For information and advice on the NIAS-Lorentz Workshop outline, please contact Henriette Jensenius.

EMW Mentoring Programme

EWM-NL (European Women in Mathematics Netherlands) has a mentor network aimed at female mathematicians from all ages who need advice on matters related to their mathematical career, such as balancing family and a career in science, networking, or career development.

You can sign up to the mentor network both as a mentee and/or a mentor. Each mentee will be matched to a more senior mentor based on stated preferences and interests. Through the mentor network, mentors can share their perspective and experience with their mentees on how it is like to be a scientist and how to further your career in mathematics.
