A side project for the community: How two recent IndE grads are helping restaurants adapt during the pandemic

TurboMenu creators, Fawzi Ammache (IndE 1T9 +PEY) and Adham Zaki (IndE 1T9 +PEY).

A website created by two industrial engineering alumni who graduated in the midst of the pandemic hopes to bring some relief to restaurants by providing a way to create free, easy to manage QR code menus.

Toronto-area restaurants have been hit hard during the pandemic and have spent the better part of a year adapting to new public health guidelines to ensure customer safety. Many restaurants have put their menus online to minimize the number of touchpoints between servers and customers, however this can be difficult to do right. To help solve this problem Fawzi Ammache (IndE 1T9 +PEY) and Adham Zaki (IndE 1T9 +PEY) developed TurboMenu. TurboMenu is an online platform that allows restaurants to create a QR code menu quickly, easily, and perhaps most importantly, for free.

Announcement of Innovation at Interfaces 2020 Award Winners

The Low Carbon Renewable Materials Center (LCRMC) has just announced the winners of their first award 'Innovation at Interfaces'. With the goal to build stronger relationships within UofT research, teams of two researchers were selected supporting their projects on sustainable materials, processing, practices and data analysis. The 8 winning teams demonstrated ingenuity in their proposed projects which likely will attract further financial support and in-kind contributions from both internal and external stakeholders.

The winners include a number of faculty from our MIE community: Cristina Amon, Fae AzhariElias Khalil, Patrick Lee, Javad Mostaghimi, Hani Naguib and Chul Park.

The I@I Initiative is proudly supported through contributions by the University of Toronto's Departments of MIE, ChemE, MSE, CivMin, ECE and sustainability focused institutions LCRMC, CARTE, TIAM and C4M.
