'I went to Church on the weekend'
Message by Pr Simon Gigliotti
I went to church on the weekend.
(Yes, I know - “we don’t go to church - we are the church - I remember 😁.”)
What I meant was - I went to the gathering we have on Saturday mornings.
It was great!
- Community
- The Word
- Song
- Hospitality
- Food with friends (afterwards)
Since COVID hit, and Saturday, or Sunday if that’s you, morning meetings closed, I’ve noticed - even once churches have started to open their services again - that many people are not engaging.
Rather, they are choosing to stay home with the family/by themselves, go the beach, hang at a friends house etc. Those things are fine in and of themselves, it’s not like God doesn’t like that you do that...but I really don’t believe the blessing is quite the same.
I also don’t believe that, if we’re not doing those things with others in community - for example a house church - connected to a broader faith community - that we’re contributing all we can.
Gathering as a church is not just about us, it’s about the blessing we can give. It’s about being part of Kingdom Community (think about the person whose home life is not as nice as yours. They probably look forward to seeing you when we gather as a church).
If you’re doing house church - connected to a broader faith community - fine. There is power in that. But, please, let’s not just slip into habits where participation in God’s kingdom community doesn’t go much further than looking at a screen for an hour once a week.
Instead, let’s engage, let’s think outside our immediate comfort zone, let’s look to give and look to serve.
Let’s show the world that we Love people, because we Love Jesus. And let’s do all this - together - as a Church!
If you’re not engaging in a kingdom community - get back into one. It’s awesome!
Blessings,
Pr Simon Gigliotti - GSC Youth Director
