Congratulations to Legacy Middle School teacher Riley Jones for being named East Central's District Teacher of the Year! As a product of East Central ISD, Mrs. Riley says it gives her great pride to work and give back to the school that helped shape her into the person she is today. She's made it her mission to leave a legacy and to impact as many people as she can. "While I have been teaching for only three years, I keep this mission in mind, and I truly believe that I am on my way to accomplishing it," she says. We think so, too!

ECHS Green Team Does Mid-Winter Cleanup
East Central High School's Green Team did some mid-winter clean-up on their Pollinator's Paradise Garden.
It was damp and dreary this week, but that didn't stop the East Central High School's Green Team from doing some mid-winter cleanup on their Pollinator's Paradise Garden. First, they removed litter and dead branches to open up the space to allow sunlight to touch some emerging seedlings. Next, they cleaned up edges along the shrubs to allow for more physical distancing on sidewalks. They left the leaves and winter-killed shrubs as mulch and soil cover to prevent undesirable non-natives. Finally, they collected seeds to propagate plants and expand the native plant gardens. Big thanks to Amina Washington, Collin Page, Daniel Mohs and Christian Luensmann for their service!
