NLSW

Happy National Lutheran Schools Week! The last week of January is set aside across our country to take time to celebrate all of our Lutheran schools. CLS is part of a large network of schools all built upon the solid foundation of our faith: Jesus Christ. National Lutheran Schools Week is a time to celebrate our history and past; to remember those who sacrificed to build what we have today. It is also a time to look with eager anticipation to the future as we answer God's call to share the Gospel. And so we celebrate! God bless you and have a GREAT National Lutheran Schools Week!

Mr. Weber

Teacher Appreciation Video

Dear Students, Parents, and Alumni of The Lutheran Schools,
As we all know, the past year has been anything but “normal”. Our school staff are on the front lines - working tirelessly to serve our students, making sacrifices to meet needs, and constantly living in “crisis mode”. Yet despite all of the challenges, they have continued to persevere. They are true heroes, inspiring us all every day. And, we want to take a moment to say, “Thank you!”
We are putting together a Teacher Appreciation Video - and we need your help! In the video, we want to feature a series of short “Thank You!” moments filmed at home by you all!

Watch this Microsoft Teacher Appreciation video to see an example.
Here are the instructions to participate:
  • Use your phone or computer to film a short (5-10 second) video of your student or alumnus saying, “Thank you, _(teacher name)_!”
  • Shoot the video horizontally.
  • Your student can hold a handmade “thank you” sign as well.
  • Copy and paste this link into your browser and follow the instructions to upload your video*:
  • Videos must be submitted by 11:59pm on Monday, January 25th.
Recording Tips:
  • Be sure that your lighting is good, and that you can see yourself.
  • Keep your phone or computer at eye level or slightly above.
  • Be mindful of what’s behind you in the background - avoid distractions.
  • Be in a quiet area and speak at an appropriate volume.
  • Don’t worry about editing your video - we’ll do that!

Yearbook Help Needed!

In keeping with our theme for the year of "Sent to Serve", we are looking for ways that our CLS students have served outside of the CLS walls this school year. If you have a picture(s) of your child serving their church or community, we would love to include it in a section in the yearbook this year! Anything from the 2020-2021 school year (or summer 2020) would be great, and all submissions will be accepted through Friday, March 5th. Please email any photos and a brief description of the act of service to Mrs. Robinette at lrobinette@cluth.org.

Gift Planning Presentation

On January 27, the Indiana District is offering a short, free online presentation on gift and estate planning, in partnership with the LCMS Foundation. It will include information on how to bless family and ministry through your estate. Learn how to steward the gifts God has given you, how to gain peace of mind through a well-organized plan, and how the Foundation can help you get it done. For more details, and to register, visit the Indiana District.

January Building Campaign Update

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The CLS Building campaign continued over the Christmas season collecting $40,551 of new pledges and $69,754 of total dollars collected in December. The outstanding balance of $1,569,948.00 remains.

A sizable principal payment is anticipated in January. There is still a gap that needs bridged and the building campaign committee resumed working early this month and will to providing updates on the campaign’s status to the churches in a few weeks. There will be presentations scheduled at each of the churches, so look for information in your church’s newsletters.

Please prayerfully consider contributing to the campaign and please open your hearts and minds to those on the committee who may be calling on you very soon to discuss the project and needs of Central Lutheran School.

To God be the glory,
Central Lutheran Capital Campaign Committee

Shirley Kern

Shirley E. Kern, 86, joined the Church Triumphant early Wednesday morning, January 13, 2021 and will now enjoy eternal happiness with God. She was born on December 7, 1934, and was the daughter of Victor and Victoria Kern.

Shirley graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School. Following graduation, she spent a year working at the Allen County Library. She earned her education degree at Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, IL and later received a Master's Degree in Education from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. She proudly served as teacher for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod at Trinity (Sawyer, MI), Central Lutheran (New Haven, IN) and Emmanuel-St. Michael Lutheran School (Fort Wayne). Her own Christian education was a valuable part of her life and felt she wanted to share Christ's love with others.

Fort Wayne, the West Central neighborhood, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church played an important part in her life. She was especially fond of worshiping with her Emmanuel family, attending Bible classes, and serving on Parish Life committees, Altar Guild, and Greeters.
Shirley had a passion for reading and sharing that love with the children of Emmanuel-St. Michael School. After retiring she spent another 20+ years helping staff the school library.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Food Bank or Emmanuel-St. Michael Library Fund in care of the church address. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.klaehnfahlmeltonfunerals.com for the Kern family.
