President's Mesage

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

Thank you to all who participated in the recent survey regarding the Strategic Plan. You have heard me talk about this plan in nearly every newsletter, and that is because of its importance to us as an organization. Our three areas of emphasis include member advancement, resident support, and organizational development. We have already started working towards implementing several of the identified activities associated with these three pillars, and we will continue to use this plan to guide our decisions as we move forward.

We recently held the last of our scheduled ACVMSR Virtual CE events on March 13th. We thank Dr. Jennifer Brown and the entire CE Committee for putting on some outstanding CE over the last 4 months. This was a large pivot from our planned meeting at ACVS Surgery Summit for the fall of 2020. I hope many of you had a chance to attend some or all of these offerings. While no RACE credits are available for these CE offerings on demand, you can still register and learn some great things if you missed them live! We all look forward to the great in person program that is being put together for the ACVSMR Annual Educational Meeting, hosted in conjunction with the ACVS Surgical Summit Chicago October 7-9, 2021. Abstracts can be submitted for the conference until midnight pacific standard time on April 1, 2021, to dr.brown@floridavetrehab.com. I look forward to seeing some great submissions from our diplomates and residents, interns, and students!

I am pleased to report that our online system to submit recredentialing material has gone live! This spring our first round of diplomates requiring submission of points to recredential as Diplomates after 10 years, have begun submitting their materials with the system. This system has been long in the making, and we are pleased to see it come to fruition in time for this first round of recredentialing. This system will continue to be used as we move forward with recredentialing of diplomates, and will also be the platform we use to transition to online resident log submissions in the near future.

And last, but certainly not least, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to and congratulate all of those who successfully based the board examination to become new Diplomates of the ACVSMR!!! These new members successfully sat a rigorous exam in a pandemic, and have now joined our ranks as full Dips. We look forward to seeing them contribute to our College. I would like to say a big thank you to our Exam Committee, chaired by Dr. Marti Drum, for running a smooth exam that had to be done with new software from afar, instead of in person as has historically occurred. Kudo’s to a job well done.

CONGRATULATIONS to the following new Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation!

Call for volunteers: ACVSMR Public Relations and Marketing Committee

We are looking for a volunteer from the canine side of the College to fill a vacant spot on the Public Relations and Marketing Committee. The spot is a partial term, ending in October of 2022, so a great opportunity for someone who has never served on an ACVSMR committee to dip their toes in the “service to your College” pond (I’m particularly talking to you, new diplomates). As you are aware, the ACVSMR Board of Directors is finalizing the College’s strategic plan, and likely the PR&M committee will be one of the committees impacted by this plan. Meaning this is a great time to step up and help chart the course of your College!

If you are interested, please email me at michael.davis@okstate.edu with a brief message indicating that you are interested and just a short paragraph as to your skillset and interests as they relate to the activities of PR&M (i.e., putting together materials for external stakeholders, interacting with sponsors, etc). A full description of the charge of the PR&M committee can be found in our bylaws (https://vsmr.org/acvsmr-leadership/, page 19). Your interest will be forwarded to the Nominating Committee and chair of PR&M for review, and ultimately someone will be selected by the Board to fill this partial term.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
Mike
