HURRAY! With your help we have reached our target of raising over £23,000 to create the window, and fund the associated children's remembrance project. Thank you to all our supporters and especially to everyone who has contributed. However, we have not finished!

We are now raising funds to develop a Community Church and RAF Commonwealth War Graves Heritage Centre.  This involves restoration work, the installation of an accessible toilet, kitchen and central heating in our English Heritage 'at risk' 14th century grade II* listed building . We have recently been supported by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who have chosen Scampton Church as a focal site for 2021. Our goal is to restore and protect this building -  home to 107 Commonwealth War and RAF Service Graves, for generations to come.
To this end the invitation to sponsor a pane of glass will continue.
Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is a day that focuses on love; usually on romantic love, but we can also celebrate friendship and family love. Maybe you know of someone who would like to sponsor a pane of glass and dedicate it to a loved one? If so please be encouraged to share this message with them.

Progress Report
Claire (the window designer) has kindly agreed to send photographs of the windows construction as it develops. These show the full size pattern up to the point where the leadlines have been penned in with a sharpie pen. All the different coloured glass pieces will be cut to the inside of the pen line on each shape on the pattern. The pattern is really the blueprint of a stained glass window showing where the lead structure will be. The next step is the shading which gives the base pattern its depth.
These photos show the next stage of the window design, I have overlaid the lead line pattern with tracing paper and using charcoal have worked out where the shading will be on the design
These next pictures show how I am creating the details that cannot be cut from a single piece of glass.
I am using powdered glass and a hand cut template to sift the powder onto a base piece of clear glass. The powder is then fired in the kiln. it takes four layers of powder to create the desired colour.
These are the red arrows that will eventually be in the diamond nine formation.
These photos show some of the final base colours fused and cut for the main details in the window ready to start painting on.
These pictures show the glass powders that are fired onto the base clear glass to give you the colour details. The glass is then cut to the pattern ready for the traditional paintwork to start.
These piccies show the start of the glass cutting of the mouthblown base glass.
