Look what's arrived in school this week...
After a huge effort from you, our families, in fundraising the last couple of years, and the hard work of our school council, the monkey bars have arrived and are being installed!

We cannot wait to see all the fun and joy they bring to play times! Thank you.
"Hello boys and girls! Well done for another fantastic week! Here are a few of your Moz Moments:
  • Wesley (Reception) from mum: All week while we have been moving house he has done his very best to be helpful with unpacking and keeping things tidy. He has played really nicely with his little brother and kept both of them entertained! While doing all this he has still managed to do all the school work I’ve asked him to do and get top marks in spellings. Well done Wesley!
  • Harry (Form 3) from mum and dad: Harry and his sister went out on their scooters, for some exercise. Harry, looked after his little sister at every road crossing and helped her cross the road safely. Talking her through, how to cross the road. Also on that same outing, Harry thanked a lady for stepping aside, so he and Emily could scoot past. She was so pleased and commented on his nice manners and even said “That’s the first thank you I’ve actually had from anyone today.” Well done Harry!
Keep all your lovely Moz Moments coming for me to hear about in assembly!"

Early Years
In Little Adventurers, following on from our giant classroom igloo that we made, we made teeny tiny igloos using marshmallows and icing sugar.

We used different shapes to make a penguin and practised cutting with scissors to make snowflake patterns.

We enjoyed lots of building and balancing, with Mrs Davis helping each of us walk the plank in the garden. We made an obstacle course which finished with a whoooosh down the slide!

In Great Explorers, we have been busy this week! We celebrated not one, but TWO birthdays - Happy Birthday to Cooper and Wilf!

We have learned our new letter "t" and have revisited "s" and "a". We loved sorting surprise items from the magic bag into the correct letter basket.

We have sorted and ordered blocks numbered 1-20 and loved knocking it down. We grated cheese and rolled pastry to make cheese straws for our snack, and we loved watching and investigating skittles sweets "melting" and "draining" in the milk, water and hot water.

Next week we will learn the letter "i" and talk about friendship, what makes a good friend, and walk down to the river!
Reception
We have been learning all about the value of coins and comparing buying 1 crisp, a packet of crisps or a box of crisps and deciding which coins we should use.

Florence FP used coins to make a toy shop and counted objects around the home, including her dog!

Maya sent in a gorgeous video of her telling us all about the woodpecker in her garden - we watched the BBC live birdwatch on Thursday and discussed different birds we might find in the Winter and in our gardens. Maya also practised her spellings using a throwing game at home which was great to see!

Wesley was extremely helpful at home to his mum, helping her unpack and looking after his little brother as well as doing his work.

Well done Reception on working so hard with your school work and also being great siblings and children for your parents! You make Mrs Hudson very proud!
Harrison's penguins, Maya's woodpecker facts and Wesley's fantastic phonics!
Form 1
This week we have become poets. We have looked at different poems about the weather and identified adjectives and thought about alliteration. We recorded some wonderful performances of our favourite poem using props and instruments. We then wrote our own acrostic poems using amazing adjectives and alliteration. Mr Martin was amazed and cannot wait to add them to his WOW wall.

In Maths we finished our work on subtraction, we used ten frames, part whole models and number lines to help us. We finished the week working on some tricky problems.

We continued out work on the Titanic, thinking about the events and the children made some amazing posters to demonstrate this. In PSHE we continued our work on Keeping ourselves safe and the children made some excellent videos showing the safe way we need to cross the road.

You continue to WOW Mrs Picken everyday with your amazing efforts and creativity.
Form 1 read poems about the weather then chose their favourite to recite at home!
Form 2

It has been a busy week in Form 2 as we moved to live lessons. Mrs Neild has been extremely impressed with how well the children have coped with this, listening intently and making fantastic contributions to our discussions.

In Maths we have continued to focus on multiplication, writing number sentences using pictures and arrays. The children have also challenged themselves by tackling some of the extension tasks using their problems solving and reasoning skills.

In English, we have completed our poetry topic based on the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ by Roger McGough by writing our own versions set in different places such as a farm, school, rainforest, city or the seaside. Each poem was written in the same style as the original, using words ending in -ing to describe the sounds and actions you would hear or see in their chosen setting. It also followed the same structure, rhyming the 2nd and 4th lines in each of the verses, Form 2 relished finding rhyming words which would fit into their poems. The results are absolutely brilliant - we definitely have some poets in the making!

In Science we carried out an experiment to see if we could change the shape of some materials by bending, twisting, stretching and squashing different objects. The children then made conclusions using the results from their experiment as to why certain types of materials were more changeable than others!

Well done Form 2  - I am so proud of your excellent approach to ‘Lockdown Learning’!

Form 2 recited 'The Sound Collector' by Roger McGough. We edited the poem together and showed it to Mr McGough who loved performing alongside the children!!
Form 3

It's the final week on our Seaside Stories topic. Over the month we have read two Seaside adventures by Michael Morpurgo. This week we have worked on our punctuation – punctuating direct speech. We’ve discussed conversations between characters and learnt the rules for punctuating them. To finish the topic we have planned and written our own adventures using the skills we have developed over the topic – including adjectives, adverbs to add interest and detail and punctuating speech.

In Maths we have been scaling up and down using multiplication and division skills  and did our end of topic test which showed that everyone can be proud of the work they have been doing.

Science – both 3 and 4 investigated states of matter and our 3rd lesson involved heating and cooling by melting chocolate at three different temperatures. We had an emphasis on setting up a ‘fair’ test and recording results. The children recorded temperatures and time taken for the chocolate to melt on a table and graphed the results. Some excellent summaries and conclusions.

In RE, F3 and F4's topic is  Food and Fasting. This week the children learnt facts about the Christian festival of Lent and completed a True/False quiz about giving up food.
Videos from Form 3 - Coco's play on kosher food and Jewish tradition and Olivia's news report. Well done girls!
Form 4

This week Form 4 developed on our fairytale topic by writing our own 'innovated' fairy tales. In SPaG we looked at paragraph structures which will help improve our stories.

In Maths, we have been working with decimal numbers - tenths and hundredths - very impressive work!

In our Learning Challenge question 'What made the Roman army so successful?' the children looked at Roman soldiers uniform and

As above, Form 4 enjoyed a tasty test in Science by investigating heating and cooling methods on different chocolate. Last week our experiment involved soft drinks to see which was the most fizzy!

Form 4 are legendary linguists impressing Miss Smith with their Spanish work this week!
Form 5
This week in English Form 5 have been practising our use of reported speech and converting between the active and passive voice, then writing a news article based on the book ‘Tuesday’ by David Weisner.

In Maths we're collecting data on our exercise regime, then drawing complex bar graphs before interpreting the data.

We took our Learning Challenge topic ‘What Lies Beneath?’ to investigate the largest organ of the human body, then looking beneath the surface of our skin to learn about the other organs of the body.

Building on from a science-y Learning Challenge lesson, the children investigated shadows and then spent the week writing and creating their own shadow puppet show about the professional conflicts between Isaac Newton and Robert Hooke in their Science lesson.

We have been using powerpoint to design and edit the front cover of a newspaper in Computing, then producing our news article from English onto it.

In Guided Reading - we are looking at the difficult new vocab in Chapter Two of ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’.

And in PSHE - the class had to budget for a family holiday to India. Great budgeting work that we hope to put into practice when we can go on holiday again!
Form 6

Year 6’s adventure themed lessons have continued this week. We returned to Antarctica to finish William Grill’s book 'Shackleton’s Journey'. The children then planned and created recounts to explain how Shackleton and his men all survived. These were amazing and fact filled, please see Isabelle’s brilliant example, there we so many examples to choose from!

In mathematics we have been using our knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions to complete stained glass window puzzles and mazes. We finished the week looking at percentages - check out Layla’s brilliant efforts.

In Learning Challenge we jetted off to Egypt. Our topic this half term is 'What lies beneath?' and the class decided they would like to know all about what lies breath the sarcophagus of a mummy. We investigated the different layers and created posters to explain the mummification process. Some people then conducted experiments and made their mummified fruits.

In Science this week we continued our galactic adventures, after we finished our orreries (please see Kitty and Alice’s examples) we started to examine the moon. We conducted a phases of the moon biscuit experiment and learnt the scientific names for the moon throughout the lunar month.

In PHSE we continued with our finance topic and looked at budgeting and interpreting bank statements.

Commendations were presented this morning in our assembly with Mr Martin. Our normal assemblies take place in the hall on Friday mornings, where parents and grandparents are welcome. We are so impressed with you all! You are putting in top effort and really impressing us with your work.

Reception - Harrison S. Harrison was supposed to get this commendation before Christmas, for his enthusiasm and fantastic general knowledge plus his phonics and maths ability are superb and he is also so very kind and polite at all times. During home learning, Harrison has done some fantastic work for Mrs Hudson who particularly loved his two penguins that he created following a topic input - he had researched the different types of penguins and had created them to look exactly how they should. Excellent work Harrison!
Form 1 - Amadeo PT for his excellent efforts this week in all his learning but with special mentions for his poetry recital and PHSE work AND Noah BC who give 100% to everything he does. Special mention to Ben Laycock for his brilliant poem and his work on the Titanic.
Form 2 - Samuel W for his version of the poem 'The Sound Collector'. Not only did he include rhyme but he made some thoughtful word choices to reflect the sounds and actions that would happen in his chosen setting.
Form 3 - Harry D for a happy, positive attitude towards lessons and consistently producing impressive work.
Form 4 - Joshua D for his consistently mature approach towards his studies, for having amazing manners and for being a great friend to his classmates.
Form 5 - Tobias CN for always challenging himself with his work and for making great contributions to online discussions. A star!
Form 6 - Kitty P for outstanding motivation and continuing drive to improve in all of her lessons AND Isabelle H for wonderful creative writing and brilliant effort in mathematics.
