From Our President

Welcome to 2021! We know you wore a lot of hats in 2020—Zoom enthusiast, teacher, caretaker, virtual happy hour aficionado—and all while adapting to a new work-from-home environment. We hope that this new year gives you some time to unwind and network with some industry colleagues because you deserve it!

In other exciting news, our SMPS Charlotte Chapter turns 40 this year and we need volunteers to help us plan some exciting content! Please contact Kelly Harter (Kelly.harter@hdrinc.com) if you are interested.

If you haven’t marked your calendars yet, SERC 2021 is being held in Nashville, TN on April 25–27, 2021 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Got a minute?
We want to hear from you!

In 1981, SMPS Carolinas was chartered after local professionals recognized the need for a membership organization to share ideas, educational resources, and networking opportunities. Today, our Chapter represents a dynamic network of more than 90 marketing and business development professionals from more than 55 firms in the area.

SMPS Charlotte’s 40th anniversary is a big milestone for our Chapter and we need your help to make this celebration last all year long! We have developed a survey for our members (past, present and future) to share your thoughts and memories with SMPS Charlotte. Your response could be highlighted via our virtual platforms throughout 2021! The survey will remain open until February 28, 2021. We can’t wait to hear from you!

January Perks that Work: CPSM

Position yourself as a marketing/BD leader within the A/E/C by earning professional credentials through the Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) program. A CPSM is recognized as an individual who has met a rigorous standard of experience and expertise in marketing professional services and has demonstrated their knowledge of the practice and related disciplines through a thorough examination of marketing competency. This voluntary credential serves as a mark of distinction, raising your standing among employers, peers, and the public.

“Becoming a CPSM not only furthered my career, but also my confidence as the lone marketer in a regional office of a large company. I was the first person in my firm to gain those four little letters after my name, and received a surprising amount of recognition for my efforts. I have since had the opportunity to not only share all my new knowledge with my peers, but also have the reach to speak with upper management about new ideas and initiatives. I don’t think I would have the influence I have today if I hadn’t decided to take that leap and study for the CPSM Exam. It’s a big commitment, but well worth the time and energy! I feel like I finally know how to be a successful and impactful marketer.”
Kafferti Durham, CPSM - Senior Marketing Coordinator, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company

NEW MySMPS Sector Communities

During a recent meetup with some of our chapter leaders, we heard that having the opportunity to connect around sectors would be a benefit to members. As a result, we’re introducing nine sector communities on MySMPS. If you work in these sectors, please join the communities to network, look for teaming opportunities, solicit marketing advice, showcase your thought leadership, and share best practices with your sector peers.
