A message from Jack Hughes:

Thank you for your continued support of the Foundation. It means more to me and my family than you would ever know. For those of you who don’t know about the WSF, it’s a foundation that my family started in honor of my brother Willie who passed away from an aggressive brain cancer. The WSF's mission is to continue to raise awareness and funding to find life-saving treatments for all pediatric brain cancer patients.

On a personal note, this challenge is incredibly important to me because basketball is a game that brought Willie and I together during our childhood. Some of our best memories are in the backyard shooting and playing hoops. Willie had a love and passion for basketball like no other. This is a perfect opportunity for friends and family to come together to honor him and his love for the sport he loved and have some fun especially during these challenging times. Although the brackets are closed, there is still an opportunity to support and purchase tickets for the Birthday Celebration or donate. It means the world to me and my family. I promise this will be an incredible month and a special closing celebration on February 15th.

Mission

The mission of the Foundation is to raise funds to find treatments for pediatric glioblastoma and other aggressive pediatric brain tumors through research, clinical trials and other new therapies at Children’s National.

Endowment

Our immediate goal is to raise $2 million dollars to create an endowment to establish the William Seamus Hughes Professorship in Neuro-oncology and Immunology at Children’s National. It will be the first endowed chair at Children’s National to focus exclusively on these two areas, yielding lifesaving results. This Professorship will guarantee that Will’s fighting spirit lives on in the promise to other families devastated by brain tumors and ensure that every child has the very best chance for a cure.

Why an Endowed Professorship?

  • An endowed professorship is the foundation of new discoveries and innovations at Children’s National, vital to promoting excellence and scholarship

  • An endowment allows Children’s National to retain top minds and support groundbreaking work

  • An endowment provides a reliable source of funding, giving professors the tools they need to pursue broad-minded and bold inquiries, leading to better outcomes for children
