Dear wolf advocate:
Last Friday the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board narrowly decided (by 4-3) NOT to hold a wolf hunt this winter and spring. Thank you to the many who sent in comments - 1400 in total! Every comment matters.
As of early January 2021, Minnesota's gray wolves are removed from the Endangered Species List under a rule from the U.S. Department of Interior. Last week in response, many environmental groups announced their lawsuit to restore these protections.
The Minnesota State Legislature kicked off in early January. We anticipate a bill introduction to restart Minnesota's wolf hunting. We will oppose this and instead push for funding nonlethal conflict prevention methods and more. We will be carefully watching and engaging in the process. The Minnesota DNR's Wolf Management Advisory Committee continues to (virtually) meet on updating the state's wolf plan. Governor Tim Walz opposes a wolf hunt.
We will be organizing legislative meetings and email campaigns for wolf advocates in Minnesota - stay tuned for more details about how to help the wolf.
Howling For Wolves:
- Opposes all wolf trophy hunting, baiting, and trapping and snaring,
- Supports the state’s shift in focus toward conflict prevention with livestock using nonlethal methods, which include guard animals, fencing, birthing shelters, lights, and carcass removal.
- Opposes baiting, trapping, and killing wolves routinely in response to wolf-livestock conflicts.
Your advocacy and support are key to the wolf's survival.
