Black History Month Resources and Activities
February is Black History (or African Heritage) Month in Canada, a time to honour the contributions and struggles of peoples of African descent. How do you (and your congregation) plan to mark it? The United Church has many worship resources for each week, including new blog posts, prayers, and a new Black History Month service for 2021.
This year, to accompany the blog posts, we will also be sharing video interviews of the writers, which we hope will enrich your experience.
International Decade for People of African Descent: Prayer Cycle
You may have noticed the daily prayers being posted on our Twitter account—they're part of the United Church's commitment to the UN Decade for People of African Descent. Prayers for 2021 will be posted on our Anti-Racism webpage (in the Downloads section) soon, so you can join in on your own social media pages. Remember to use the hashtags #AfricanDescent, #UCCan, and #UCC!

United Church Bookstore: New Book Alert!
United Church Publishing House is very excited to announce the launch of a new book— Thriving Churches: Urban and Rural Successes by the Rev. Dr. Lorraine MacKenzie Shepherd. It tells the story of two United Church ministers who travelled across Canada visiting flourishing United Churches to uncover the secrets of their success.
The resulting book is truly unique; the Rev. Shepherd identifies characteristics and common spiritual attributes shared by successful churches and gives the reader concrete examples from a variety of congregations. To accompany the launch, United in Learning is running a webinar series (starting tomorrow, January 27) called "Thriving Churches During COVID and Beyond".
