Hello everyone!
I’m currently writing a four-thousand-word paper for my Music Ministry in the Local Church class during this J-term, an intensive semester in January where three months of material is crammed into two and a half weeks. I could write volumes about music ministry -- joy!
The Fall semester at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary wrapped up in mid-December. Returning to university after a long time away, deep theological conversations in online meetings, writing numerous papers, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, being a father to my son during this time, remaining committed to my work here at Flame of Faith UMC, and keeping my sanity – needless to say, it was an incredibly difficult time for me and everybody else. By the grace of God, I came through it with my whole self still intact and good grades to begin my time at seminary. I know that you have been praying for me and I have felt that support. I very much appreciate the notes of encouragement and our brief pandemic-safe conversations.
It would be abnormal for my heart to be bereft of song, and so I want to share music with you each week. Today, I give you “Crucified with Christ” performed by Phillips, Craig and Dean. Yes, it is indeed from the mid-1990’s; feel free to give me all the guff you'd like. Click the link to listen. Over the past year, a particular lyric has never left me.
“His cross will never ask for more than I can give, for it's not my strength, but His.”
I pray that this song brings you peace and comfort for the coming days. I am excited to see what the future holds for Flame of Faith. I look forward to tonight’s worship service and invite you to join us in-person (with restrictions) or online.
Peace,
Janson

Registration opens today for the 2021 camping season! Check out the camps and events at Dakotas United Methodist Camps.
Registration and all information for the 2021 camping season will be digital and available on our website. With the potential for changes to schedules and events leading up to summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Dakotas and Minnesota Camp & Retreat Ministry team chose to forgo the traditional printed camp brochure this year. Instead, all camp listings and registration information are on the Dakotas UM Camps website where details will be updated quickly, and changes made in real-time. This ensures you will always have the most up-to-date information.
The early bird incentive, bring-a-friend discount, and camperships are all still available.
Space may be limited this season, so sign up soon!
|
|
- Register by April 30th to receive the Early Bird Discount of $5 off per night of camp.
- Bring-A-Friend Incentive is back in 2021! Each new camper you bring to camp you can earn you a discount of $25 off the price of your camp.
- Before registering, check with your local church to see if they offer a discount code.

A big thank you to all who supported our Virtual Mission Team in raising $2,215 for food distribution in the communities where we have distributed solar ovens in the past. Because of the COVID-related economic impacts, people who were already poor have even greater vulnerability. So, our virtual mission team and the Dominican Evangelical Church decided the team would raise funds for the church by promoting a cooking video provided by Solar Ovens cooking instructor, Gertrudis Garcia. The church would then use the funds to purchase and distribute food baskets. Rev. Erasme Figaro sent photos of the distribution, which was carried out last week.
|
|
Interesting cultural difference: In the US we tend to do a lot of food distribution for the holidays, because we don't want to think of anyone going hungry over the holidays. Erasme intentionally waited until past the holiday season, because he said the holidays bring greater economic activity and people are more able to get food during the holidays.
