Somerville awarded Accelerating Climate Resiliency Grant from MAPC to continue Keep Cool Somerville efforts

Keep Cool Somerville is an initiative to improve community resilience to extreme heat. The initiative began in 2020 as a collaboration between the City of Somerville and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to address the health impacts of climate change. In 2021, the initiative will build upon the findings of earlier community engagement and research to focus on supporting community solutions to address heat. Community organizations and groups will be invited to propose small-scale, pilot projects to improve resilience to heat and a handful of projects will be funded to be implemented over the summer. The Keep Cool project team will also engage deeply with select community organizations and priority populations to build their capacity to propose and implement projects. The initiative is advised by the Keep Cool Advisory Committee, an interdisciplinary group of city staff and community representatives, and is supported by a grant from the MAPC Accelerating Climate Resiliency Grant Program.

Public EV Charging Updates

There have been some recent changes to Somerville's public EV charging stations:
  • A new station at Assembly Square at 130 Foley St (on the corner with Grand Union Blvd.) is now active. It has been added to the Chargepoint app.
  • The charging station at City Hall is no longer available for public use and can only be used by City fleet vehicles. We apologize for the inconvenience.
  • The station in the Day St lot in Davis Square was damaged and has been removed. We are working on reinstalling it and will provide an public update as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Hannah Payne
