Did you know that we have a support group for the Cornell community? It’s open to staff, faculty, students and retirees who have had a cancer diagnosis. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 11:45 – 12:45. We’ll meet again in person when the campus returns to full activity. For the time being, we meet on Zoom. To receive the login information, contact Monica Vakiner (monica@crcfl.net) or Bob Riter (rnr45@cornell.edu).
The value of Nick's #GentleYoga Class as described by a participant:
"I have been attending Nick’s gentle yoga class through CRC for many years. Of all the yoga/exercise classes I have tried, Nick has been the most sensitive to the needs of people who are dealing with cancer. His classes not only give us a gentle routine for physical self care, but also mindful meditative tools to calm the busy mind and nervous system, which tends to work on overdrive in many of us dealing with cancer. I cannot put into words what I receive from the hour of zoom every week connecting with Nick and “my” people."

Classes meet via Zoom on Tuesdays 10-1 am. If you would like to drop-in to the class, email info@crcfl.net for the zoom link.

Cancer Research Seminar Spotlight
We are delighted to highlight the Cornell Community Cancer Partnership this month. This collaboration between the Cancer Resource Center and Cornell University began in 2012 and has connected cancer patients, survivors, and loved ones with cancer researchers and students on an on-going basis ever since. There’s no other program like it in the country.

Here are some of our activities:

We encourage the development of similar programs at other universities by providing online resources, and we’re delighted that so many of our graduates have entered academia and industry with an appreciation for and experience with the patient community.

Our most recent seminars have highlighted the work of cancer researchers who may not have received the recognition they deserved because of their race, gender or ethnicity. We’ve just posted two on our new YouTube Channel.

COVID has prevented us from having in-person get-togethers, but we will resume monthly Zoom presentations within the next month. We are also planning a weekend program on May 1-2 with students meeting on campus and community members connecting by Zoom.To be added to the email list for announcements, contact Bob Riter at rnr45@cornell.edu.

Watch our Facebook page, our Twitter feed, and our Cornell Cancer Partnership website for details, and/or email Bob Riter to be placed on our email list. #CancerResearchSeminar #CornellCancerPartnership

Bridging the Gap between Faith and Healthcare
Last week, CRC and Hospicare held a community discussion with leaders of faith in our community. Churches, synagogues, mosques, and other faith communities often serve as a primary source of support for people going through cancer.  We thank these leaders for participating in the conversation with us and we look forward to ongoing engagement so that no one faces cancer alone.

National Cancer Prevention Month

We’ve teamed up with the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) to encourage everyone to adopt healthier habits to reduce their risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. To help you live healthier, AICR has taken the latest research & made 10 recommendations to reduce your risk for cancer and other chronic illnesses.

This year, AICR has launched a new online tool that can help you put these Recommendations into action – the Healthy10 Challenge. The challenge is a free, 10-week online program designed to help improve your diet, nutrition, physical activity and weight for lower cancer risk and better overall health. It is engaging, inspirational and accessible for all adults! #TakeTheTen
