COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY

Due to the success of our previous wellness series that we held at the start of December, we are delighted again to host and invite you to join us at the end of January for another series with Dr. Mark Lau from the Vancouver CBT Centre.

Two-part series over two sessions

  • Thursday January 28th 7-9pm
  • Thursday February 4th 7-8pm
Most of us are feeling exhausted from the difficult and stressful year that 2020 was and it is important to spend some time taking care of ourselves. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of self-therapy that teaches us skills and strategies to manage our thoughts and feelings. These sessions will focus on ways to protect your mental health and increase awareness for yourself and those around you.

The Consulate General of Ireland in Vancouver has kindly sponsored this initiative in order to support members of the Irish community here in British Columbia.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

SHAMROCK FITNESS SERVICES

Proudly born and raised in Douglas, Cork, Cormac McCarthy grew up playing sports throughout his youth and into his teenage and adult years. Having never been overly keen on academia in his school years, he always chose his next education steps based on reasons of sport or exercise. He spent secondary school in Douglas Community School due to the

schools’ soccer and cross-country successes, and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Sport & Exercise Management from Cork Institute of Technology.

Having worked as a personal trainer from 19 years old and all the way through college, Cormac always knew he would stay in the world of fitness. Moving to Vancouver in 2016 as a typically confident 23 year old, he quickly worked his way into the corporate fitness world and by 25, he was the Fitness Manager of the luxury US gym brand of Equinox.

Fast forward to 2020 where Shamrock Fitness Services became his full-time focus. During the first lockdown of COVID-19, gyms were closed and home workout equipment was scarce. Cormac started an equipment rental service with affordable prices, no long term commitments and free contactless delivery. With most of his personal training taking place within the film industry, his rental market quickly became actors travelling back and forth from the US who had to undergo mandatory quarantine spells. So far in 2021, a lot of Irish in BC have started to make use of the rental service having travelled home for Christmas!

Cormac currently runs his personal training within the private grounds of a film studio in Burnaby, as well as Denman Athletics in downtown Vancouver.
