National Campaign to Create
Pathways to Citizenship for Immigrant Essential Workers

In partnership with Faith in Action National, we are launching a campaign to urge President Biden and Congress to provide pathways to citizenship for all immigrant essential workers, Dreamers, and Temporary Protected Status holders. COVID-19 has reminded us once again of the essential part immigrants play in the healthy functioning of society, whether they are grocery workers, restaurant workers, food deliverers, janitors, housekeepers, etc. As a result, we are pressuring the Senate and House of Representatives to include protections for undocumented immigrants as part of the COVID-19 relief and stimulus bills. If undocumented essential workers are included, approximately five million people could be protected from deportation.

Faith in Action Bay Area is working with our statewide partners in order to keep up the pressure on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and our senators. More information and action items to come! ¡La lucha sigue!
Newsom Introduces Giveaways to Landlords,
Offers No Assurances to Tenant Debt Relief

Today, Governor Newsom and leaders of the Legislature announced a new bill, SB 91, to extend the eviction protections until June 30 and distribute federal rental assistance money to landlords who opt-in. The extension of eviction protections will be an important source of relief for tenants facing eviction, but the bill is weaker than the bills we have been advocating for. The Governor sidelined AB 15 and AB 16 and unfortunately kept tenant groups out of the negotiations on his plans. You can read more about his proposal at the following articles by the SF Chronicle and the LA Times, and this press release by the largest statewide tenants rights' coalition.

Join us this Wednesday on Zoom to discuss this new eviction proposal and how we can continue our campaign to ensure rent forgiveness for all Californians. Details below!

Join us this Wednesday on Zoom to reflect on our meetings with legislators and the Governor's new proposal.

In the past month, we have made phone calls and hosted meetings with three state legislators: Senator Josh Becker, Senator Scott Wiener, and Assemblymember Kevin Mullin. Over 70 people from our network in San Francisco and San Mateo County participated virtually in the bilingual meetings to get answers from legislators on their plans to protect tenants from eviction and relieve rent debt. We will share lessons learned and strategize on our next steps.

Action of Love for Our Homes
Friday, February 12, 3 p.m.
San Francisco City Hall
Please mark your calendars for this "Action of Love for Our Homes" in San Francisco City Hall. As COVID-19 continues to rage, many families are experiencing desperation as their rent debt accumulates. We will urge San Francisco to respect the dignity of immigrant families and their right to remain in their homes during the pandemic. We need your presence at this action, as we are stronger and more courageous when we united in solidarity.
