Stay Tuned!

Are you getting excited about summer? We are working with UMaine to determine what we can offer for summer programming and hope to be able to announce our summer 2021 schedule next month. Stay tuned!

While we do not deny that this summer will be a very different experience for both campers and staff, our goal is to preserve the spirit of camp by keeping the most important aspects of life at camp. We will not stop:

Learning by doing  ~  Exploring nature  ~  Being ourselves  ~  Having fun  ~  Practicing inclusivity, kindness, and respect  ~    Making friends

Help Tell Our Story

This winter the 4-H Camp & Learning Centers were selected to participate in BOOST, a program from the Quimby Family Foundation to help support our communications and storytelling work as an organization. As part of the project, BOOST has asked us to get our core stakeholders to respond to this Community Survey. Please complete the survey by Friday, February 26th.

This quick survey is designed to gather insights into how we can better spread the word about our work as well as capture stories of the impact we are making. You are a valued part of our community and we would be very grateful and appreciative to have your voice represented.

Please complete the survey by Friday, February 26th.

Try It!

Jell-O creatures
Mix some Jell-O in a small container. Pretend that the liquid Jell-O and container are a mouse seeking shelter for the winter and find a place to hide it outdoors on a cold winter day.

You could choose to bury your "mouse" in the subnivean zone (under the snow), put it under a pile of brush, or construct a shelter for it.

Leave it overnight and come back to check on it the next day. If your Jell-O mixture is still liquid, your mouse survived! If you see Jell-O in your container, your mouse froze - oops!

You might try using several containers in different locations to see which environment keeps the mouse warm enough to survive the cold or maybe you already know where mice tunnel in the winter.

Check out the Educational Resources page on our website for additional activities you can try at home!

Meet Claire

Today, Claire is a STEM Professional working with our St. George Middle School Program at Blueberry Cove. Here is how she got here:

I attended Blueberry Cove as a day camper in 2006 and then attended Tanglewood for many years. It was my favorite place and my favorite time of year. I would count down the days until I would be able to go back to camp.

I went to the two-week session every year. I went camping and it felt like I was coming home. The camp is where I fostered my love for the outdoors. Some of my favorite memories are going to the natural waterslides, learning how to canoe on pitcher pond, and then of course my leadership trips.

As a camper, I mostly stayed with the heavy outdoor focuses. I was always either in water focus or one year I was in the crazy adventure outdoor focus. That focus was one of my first ever camping trips and that had me hooked on camping.

I was with the same group for both my years as a Leadership camper and we all got really close and formed a great team. One of my favorite memories was canoeing down the St George river and we stopped by a lavender farm, played baseball, and went hay bale surfing.

Later, I had the opportunity to lead the same leadership trip that I had enjoyed years earlier. It was exciting to have the opportunity to add to some of my favorite memories and see other kids create those same happy memories for themselves.

We would love to hear from you!
