Help patients to manage taste changes

About 55 to 75% of patients getting chemotherapy experience taste changes. Eating becomes an extra struggle. Sufficient nutrition, high in protein is extra important for them however; to endure treatment as well as to support its outcome and quality of life. Different experts within Amsterdam UMC, like specialized chefs, cooks and dieticians help patients with cancer to manage taste changes. On World Cancer Day February 4th all patients on both locations of Amsterdam UMC will be served a special soup high in protein, as tribute to patients with cancer. Patients suffering from cancer will receive a written instruction how the taste can be managed.

Join the Darm-to-Darm ride 2021

Last year Cancer Center Amsterdam tried to organize the first Darm-to-Darm ride from AmsterDARM to DARMstadt. Unfortunately COVID-19 forced us to cancel the symposium and to change the D2D-ride into a national tour. Despite the fact that we had to cancel most of the event, we had a beautiful ride with a great team. This year, we hope to organize the Darm-to-Darm ride its full glory.

Tribute to Melissa

Patient of the Hematology department of location VUmc Melissa Kremer writes a book about her experiences. Despite her own situation (she won’t survive), she wants to help other and future patients and inspire anyone. Her book is not finished and published yet, however 20.000 copies were pre-ordered within a day. She donates half of the profits to Cancer Center Amsterdam. On her Instagram-account  @mijnkwaadbloed you can already follow her experiences. In January Melissa was honored by the blue flashlights of the the Amsterdam police on Dam square. Last week she was interviewed by Eva Jinek. She said in the tv-interview, ‘I’m not a patient, I’m Melissa’.
