In person classes in June.

Our class sizes have always been limited in size to give the best training.

Saturday, June 5th from 11:00-2pm

In this class students will learn the fundamental tools necessary for improv.

They will learn the benefits of working as an ensemble by building skills in collaboration, support, listening and saying yes to the possibilities of anything.

Featured Performer: Eric Storie

Eric's early inspiration to improv came from a show performed by The Reckoning (available on youtube), who performs a 35-minute Harold, from the suggestion "surgery". It's an all-time favorite that I have re-watched multiple times. It helped me early on when I was learning what longform is and can be. Their ensemble work and group mind in the opening are terrific. The scenes show tremendously patient, intelligent play. They clearly trust each other, and find ways to be really funny without pandering. It finishes strong and feels like a fully developed piece.

RPM

Cast: James Hoffmaster, Michael Ziman and Sam Haldiman

RPM started with the three of them talking each week in the parking lot after classes at Second Beat. The connection they were developing quickly led them to decide a team must be formed. Their speed and energy keeps this well-oiled machine running in the red. One thing is for sure: This engine will never overheat and the audience will want to come back for a test drive every month.

Featured Performer: Billy Brandes

Billy Brandes has been performing for four years. Some of the local teachers that have influenced his are Sam Haldiman, Jacque Arend, Stacey Reed Hanlon, Shane Shannon and Randy Messersmith. His favorite groups to watch are  Salmon Shane, Jax N Reed and Skewed News Hour.
His favorite formats are the Monoscene, Slacker and the web search format his team performs. The thing Billy enjoys most about improv are the characters. He enjoys the creativity and playfullness of discovery.

Birds and Broads

Cast: Jacque Arend and Liz Hutchman

Starting as a one-night-only performance, Birds & Broads have now been performing together for four years.

They focus on a single location scene, creating a strong relationship at the top after which they may or may not explore the other rich characters who inhabit that space.

Their shows bounce from being utterly hilarious to edge-of-your-seat engaging.
