Lifelong Learning

As you continue spending time indoors during the cold months (along with occasional outdoor adventures), the Activity Center has compiled a list of fun educational links for keeping your brain and body moving, along with numerous community resources relating to aging. Visit our our website for these links on the Helpful Resources for Seniors page.

Activity Updates

In slow measures there will be a return to some in person programming at the Center. Stay informed of the careful introduction of safely distanced activities by checking the Program Calendar. Participants wishing to attend in person activities will be required to register, wear a face mask and follow health safety protocols.

Program Calendar Navigation Tips

When accessing the Program Calendar note there are various tabs that can be selected for viewing the Calendar. If "Virtual Calendar" is selected, your web browser will likely remember that setting each time you enter the Calendar. A Virtual Calendar view will only show what activities are being offered remotely.

In order to view all events, including online and in-person activities, be sure the Program Calendar has "All Activities selected in the upper left corner of the calendar (see calendar sample of All Activities listing here).

It does take some exploring to discover there are various drop down menus to filter which type of activity you may be searching for: Education & Services, Fitness & Recreation, and Leisure & Entertainment.

And in order to begin registering for an event, you must first select the green LOG IN button. If you run into questions while trying to register or view the calendar, please contact activitycenter@hopkinsmn.com for assistance.

Virtual Field Trips

Take a virtual tour of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, to view the First Ladies exhibition entitled “Every Eye is Upon Me: First Ladies of the United States.” Learn about First Ladies who came to the White House through marriage or as family friends or relatives who filled this important role. Through portraiture, you’ll will learn about their personalities, experiences, and accomplishments.Register here for Connect to Learning educational programming offered frequently on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

And for learning opportunities being offered locally, Hopkins Community Education has a new catalog of activities including classes on: Learn to ZOOM and Google Meet, and Know Your Somali Neighbor, as well as a host of other topics ranging from Finance Management to Retirement.

Winter Walks

Friday, 2 pm

Gear up in your winter wear and get ready for fun walks along local trails to enjoy the winter wonderland and meet others for great conversation. A new trail destination is selected each week. Sign up here to join us next time for Nordic Walking.

We happen to have a few spots open to receive a cooking demonstration from local Chef Ali of the Caterers Kitchen. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity where Chef has purchased the ingredients, you just need to follow along with the preparations, then enjoy your creation!
