January 2021 Events

Dear Democratic Party Members,

We hope you had a safe, happy and enjoyable holiday season!

As we all know the work never ends. With a new year just starting and a few days till the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden, it is time for us to move into a new era for hopeful change. Although the events of January 6th have been trying and worrisome, we must persevere and overcome. With that being said, we have a few events coming up within the next few weeks.

First off, last month it was discussed for the Democratic Party of San Juan County to potentially host and conduct a celebratory caravan for President-Elect Joe Biden. After speaking with and receiving guidance from our local police departments, we have decided to cancel and not organize the event. We were told the governor currently has an order in place where a caravan/parade cannot take place if a collective of 10 or more vehicles were to participate in the event. Furthermore, after the events of January 6th, the threats made against the nations capitals and New Mexico now being in a state of emergency, it is in our best interest to not host this event in public for our own safety. As an alternative, we will be hosting an Inauguration Watch Party via zoom on Wednesday, January 20th (time to-be-determined per bideninaugural.org). In terms of presence, we encourage our members who wish to be visible or display their support for Joe Biden to do so via social media or yard signs.
Please use your best judgement.

Secondly, many of us are aware that the elections for a new County Central Committee, State Central Committee and County Officers will be taking place this spring. Currently, the time line is expected to take place for these elections during the middle of March till the beginning of April. After meeting and consulting with the Democratic Party of New Mexico, DPNM, we are finally in the preparation phase for our elections and can begin planning our elections. This will be discussed Monday, January 18th, which is when the next scheduled DPSJC executive committee meeting will be taking place.

Finally, we have made some technological changes so members can have access to meetings, agendas, minutes and treasurer's reports and other resources. A google document was made so that any of the previously stated articles will always be readily available for members to view online. We also now have an email, phone number and zoom account that belongs to our county democratic party (all resources and links will be shared below). Furthermore, we have begun designing a new easy to manage website for our county party as well. Please visit our draft website to give us feedback on the work implemented and what else you would like to see.

Thank you all for you time and patience and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your county party. Please continue to stay safe and take care.

Sincerely,

Damian Artalejo
Interim Chair
