January 2021 WSC Newsletter

Dear All,

As we begin this New Year like no other, I would like to wish you all a healthy and safe 2021.

Like all new beginnings, I am eager to face the new opportunities and new challenges that this unique year will present. Conscious of the progress that has been made around vaccines and Covid 19, I look forward to the day we will be back raising our sails, catching the breeze, and enjoying the company of friends in our beautiful bar and clubhouse.

I am delighted to welcome to the committee for the 2021 season, Oonagh Healy, Patrick Billington, Sue Snow, Tammy Billington Dynes, Sinead Godden and Isobel O'Grady. Thank you for volunteering your time. You follow in the steps of an extensive list of extremely committed and hardworking members of Wicklow S.C. and I look forward to working with you this season. Your energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas are essential for the continued successful running of the club.

As we continue to plan our 2021 season the committee continues to meet on Zoom in preparation for a return to sailing sooner rather than later.

Despite not having access to the water on our various crafts recently, some hardy club members have been braving the waters of the Irish sea for their daily dip. Well done you guys! I anticipate some very keen competition when sailing resumes ,,,,, there will be no fear of capsizing into the chilly water!

Finally, as we await further Government guidelines on the resumption of sporting activities for 2021 I would like to take this opportunity to ask fellow club members to follow all government advice around Covid 19. Our health is our wealth and in looking after ourselves we are looking after our families and our communities. And as the days are getting longer and brighter let’s all get out and about in preparation for a wonderful resumption of on the water activities and a reunion in person when we meet again in our lovely Club.

Message from your Commodore.

It's that time of year again and our annual club membership fees are due. Membership subscription for the club runs with the calendar year, January to January, regardless of when you paid your subscription the previous year.

As always the club offers their early bird discount for membership fees paid before the end of February. Membership can be paid via bank transfer or on line through the club website. For obvious reasons, the club cannot take cash payments at the bar as it has done in previous years.

The committee would like to take the opportunity to thank all our members for their continued and prompt payment of membership fees, especially last year when our usual sailing schedule was, like everything temporarily disrupted due to Covid. The club depends on the membership subscriptions for its continued successful running of the club and its facilities.

We are feeling positive and are looking forward to a good season out on the water, our dingy summer training schedule will be announced shortly and again like previous years, those who have paid their membership will get priority booking codes for summer courses, so get onto your screens this evening and click away and pay!

Summer Dinghy Courses 2021.

Summer course bookings will be going live on 1st March 2021.
Bookings will be available to paid up members only until 15th March 2021 and will then be available to the general public

SSE Renewables Round Ireland 2022

We're delighted to announce that a new date has been set for the SSE Renewables Round Ireland Yacht Race. Keep your diaries free for
June 18th 2022.

What a fantastic event to look forward to in our club.
Entries will open in January 2022 followed by Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.

And finally introducing something a little new!!
