2021 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

A New Year is a fresh opportunity to improve our workplace. On a survey from SHRM Online, this year’s goals for HR professionals are to promote learning and development, support inclusion, advocate for wellness, better listening and communication, and automating HR systems. Revamping your hiring practices and Employee Relations by launching new perks and surprises to show your appreciation can be another goal to increase employee engagement during this ongoing pandemic.

Do you need help identifying your New Year’s resolutions and setting up a strategy to accomplish them? Gotcha Covered HR can assist!
How can we help?

EMPLOYMENT LAW UPDATES

  • Start the year reviewing your Employee Handbook to reflect the latest employment policies and labor developments. Keep your employees in mind when making these changes and use vocabulary that is easy for them to understand.
  • Make time to update your job descriptions.  Include how it is to work for your organization in today’s world by adding the big and small things you are doing to make your staff feel appreciated: such as the flexibility to work from home, time off, child/daycare benefits, education, technology equipment reimbursement, etc.

  • The mandatory paid sick leave or Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) expired on December 31, 2020. However, employers may continue to offer paid leave and get tax credits to encourage employees to stay home if they are sick. This will last as long as the employee does not use up the total allowable time of 10 days/80 hours.

IS YOUR ORGANIZATION CREATING
LEADERS FOR THE FUTURE?

Mental and physical health is very much prevalent in the community and at work. It is impacting attitude, production, leaves, and overall engagement. Due to the financial impact of COVID-19, we have seen how employers who want to help their employees are facing obstacles. Not having the resources to provide health insurance to their employees, not being aware of the free resources out there that can help, and not effectively and adequately informing their workforce about these resources are some, to name a few. Gotcha Covered HR can help you develop leaders with emotional intelligence and soft skills to lead in the uncertain times we live in.
“It doesn't make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” – Steve Jobs

CAN YOU REQUIRE COVID-19 VACCINATIONS?

The new year gives us hope with the availability of the COVID-19 vaccinations, especially now where we are experiencing an increase in positive cases and a new, more contagious strain.

Whether you can require your staff to be vaccinated will depend on your industry. Industries such as health care, travel, retail, or other businesses whose employees are at risk or who present a risk to others, may consider this a requirement while keeping in mind mandatory exceptions for employees who cannot receive the vaccination because of disabilities or religious beliefs.
