“Community building must become the heart of any school improvement effort” -Thomas Sergiovanni
Dear Families:
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday that honors the slain civil rights leader. It is the only federal holiday that is recognized as a day of service where we are encouraged to volunteer to improve our communities. So today, I encourage you to use your time and skills to help address New York City’s most pressing needs in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
And on Friday, the LMC community will have our 2nd Community Day event where we will participate in an activity in service of others. Although this community day will be different from years past, our commitment to helping others remain as well as teaching students that the LMC value of “Being Kind” extends beyond the school community.
Other important Notices:
- Tomorrow, teachers will be given an opportunity to work on their curriculums so that adjustments can be made to address students’ learning needs. To ensure this happens in our remote setting, three periods throughout the day will become asynchronous periods. For most teachers, this will be periods 5-7 unless they have a scheduled IEP meeting or their lunch at that time. Students should visit google classroom to access these asynchronous assignments and review expectations.
- Manhattan Youth will begin Cycle 2 on Tuesday check MY Cycle 2 Schedule 20-21 for new activities.

RESTORATIVE JUSTICE CORNER:
LMC utilizes restorative justice at our school, and it can be very different from previous school experiences for students and families. Students learn about and participate in RJ during the school day. In hopes of bringing our new families into the fold and providing a review for our returning families, each week we will share information about RJ at LMC!
Week 18 - Families and Restorative Justice
One of our goals as a school, as developed through our SLT, is to bring parents and families into our of our community and understand the role that RJ plays in our school. Hence, the creation of the “Restorative Justice Corner” you are currently reading! And we were thrilled to hear parents discuss RJ as part of what they love about LMC when they shared their thoughts about our school with 5th-grade parents. You can watch the video here. It helps us to know that we are making progress towards our goal.
