Brief 2021 Member Survey

2019/2020 School Calendar Survey - Shingle Springs Campus

Thank you to all who completed the brief survey that we announced in our previous newsletter. Your responses are informative and helpful for our 2021 planning. We would love to hear from more of you! If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to  complete this very brief, anonymous survey. We’ll summarize responses to present at the February meeting along with plans for this year.

Indivisible-RISE Newburyport Monthly Meeting:

January 19 – Joe Biden Inauguration Eve Party!

Let’s gather together virtually to celebrate the journey and share our joy about the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and the flipping of the Senate. We’ll toast this occasion and take a deep breath before we launch into another year of political activism. Let’s come together on Zoom Tuesday, Jan. 19, 6:30-7:30 pm.

National Day of Service

As part of the virtual inauguration plan, Monday, January 18 has been designated a National Day of Service. How wonderful to have a President who cares! Make your plan for how you will contribute, and let the Biden Administration know here.

Our Work Continues

The elections are over, but there’s still plenty of work to do! There will be down-ballot elections in VA, special elections, ongoing voter outreach, legislation to pass, rallies to attend, and more.

Currently, there are opportunities to write, call, and text to ask citizens to encourage their members of Congress to press for a speedy impeachment trial, vote to convict, fully investigate the Capitol terrorist attack, severely punish any insiders who were involved, and start pressing for legislative action. These opportunities include:

Key Legislative and Structural Reforms

Indivisible-RISE and other members of the Indivisible Massachusetts Coalition will be working hard to help ensure that legislative and structural changes are made to help protect democracy and the rights of voters. We will be addressing these issues and planning related actions in the coming months, but want to start by introducing some of the key reforms that are in the works:

  • For the People Act (HR 1) - Democracy reform package to strengthen our democracy and empower voters.
  • Statehood for DC (HR51) - This is a key democracy and racial justice issue. DC would become the first BIPOC-majority State with its own  Senators and House member, Governor, and State National Guard. DC currently has more residents than either Wyoming or Vermont, but has no representation in Congress!
  • John Lewis Voting Rights Act (HR 4) - This is vital to ending voter suppression by restoring the 1965 Voting Rights Act which was gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013.
  • Reform the Courts - Establish a less hyper-partisan process for selecting and appointing judges, and undo the damage to these institutions caused by Trump and McConnell.
