If 2020 was the year of reimaging how we use our space, that makes 2021 the year of enhancing our living quarters to reflect our personal style and family dynamics. Dwayne is taking this opportunity to share the joys of making a house a home with his little ones by including them in some of his home projects. You’re never too young to be house proud!
All you need for this project is some soil, seeds, small terracotta pots and paint. Dwayne uses a lot of herbs in his recipes and loves to have an assortment of fresh varieties on hand. They grow well on countertops and windowsills making them a super easy gardening venture if you’re not ready to try your thumb with produce. Have the kiddos paint the pots to reflect their individual contents, considering using the leaves of the herbs themselves to “stamp” the designs (if you are repotting pre-sprouted herbs, that is). Make it their responsibility to water their mini garden regularly and watch then grow!
We all know those pieces of artwork that look like a child might have made them, yet they are celebrated for their abstract qualities. Why not create your own? Pick up some oversized canvases, some colorful non-toxic paint and let your little ones create their own masterpiece.
Help little ones keep their domain tidy with storage solutions they create themselves. Pick up some decorative bins and baskets and put them in charge of making labels or tags to identify the contents of each bin. Have them organize their space in a way that is intuitive to them so cleaning up after themselves will be easy and fun.
Back in the day – the day being the 80s and 90s – you’d develop rolls of film and pop them into a frame to adorn countertops and bookshelves throughout your home. These days, our family pictures often remain buried in our Photo Apps. Take the time to select a few family favorites and print them out. Have the little one help with the selection process and then be your little assistant as you install them into frames and hang them on an empty wall. Whether your choose gallery style with varying sizes or symmetrical grouping grids, this is sure to become a beloved focal point of your home.
