Dear Members,

Happy New Year! It is great to see everyone back on the beach.  We are slowly getting back into the swing of things after our unexpected closure over the Christmas holidays.  As you know, the closure impacted our Christmas celebrations and patrols, and no one was more disappointed than Santa who was looking forward to seeing all the very good little girls and boys at North Steyne. Despite the lockdown, we hope that you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas together.
With COVID cases on the wane, there are many things going on at the Club. This includes Nippers, various training sessions, the gym is open to gym members, Sunday drinks in the clubroom and, of course, patrols. Please remember that the clubhouse is still closed during the week, but we hope to have everything fully open soon pending further public health advice.

I would like to congratulate patrolling member (Patrol 8) George van Dyke on his acceptance to the 2021 SLSA National Leadership College to be held in February. 'The National Leadership College is an annual leadership and development program recognising young leaders in Surf Life Saving aged between 20 and 30 years. The week-long intensive course provides an exciting opportunity for members within the movement to further develop their leadership skills and continue to positively contribute to the success of Surf Life Saving'.  We look forward to hearing of George's experience later in the year.

This coming week-end, we will be hosting the Australia Day Manly Boat Carnival on both Saturday and Sunday. We need all hands-on deck to make sure this is a success and you can sign up to volunteer here. If you have a chance, please come and watch the carnival as surf boat racing is super exciting. Even better we have 5 crews competing so go team North Steyne!

I would like to welcome Cath Hillier as our new Administration Manager. Cath has many years of admin experience and she is part of the fabulous Hillier family who contributes so much to our Club. In fact, Cath has held the positions of both Secretary and Assistant Secretary so she knows the ropes well, and no doubt will make a big difference to the running of our Club. If you need something, you can contact Cath on admin@northsteyneslsc.com.au. Her office hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday 12-5pm. Welcome Cath!

Here’s to a great 2021 at North Steyne!

Lifesaving @ NS

Lifesaving has been tracking along well over the last month and I would like to say a big thank you to all the patrolling members who have patrolled over Christmas and the holiday period.  The festive food packages were again a hit and kept our volunteer's bellys full! I would like to give a shout out to Bundlfresh at Mona Vale who managed to keep up deliveries in lockdown.   Bundlfresh are a local family business, check out their food service and support local!

The competition is hot for the Patrol of the Year award, with numerous clubbies letting me know of the heroic deeds and embellished performances that their specific patrols are up to!!!!! there are no lengths PC's and members wont go to to let me know of the solid performance of their patrols!!! It is incredible by this standard we have by far the best patrols of any club........(I would agree)!!  Keep it up guys it is fantastic and I love to hear about what you are doing!!!!

I would also like to have a big shout out to the people who have put up their hands to help at the upcoming boat carnival, it will be a great day and an important one for the club!.  Even if you aren't able to help see if you can come down and take a look and support the five North Steyne Boat teams who will be competing.
Further, I am really pleased to see the number of people getting subs, it is really impressive to see the team supporting our patrolling members, so thanks again and enjoy the rewards!

See you on the beach!

Club Captain

 Competition @ NS

Join us next Weekend for the Australia Day Boat Carnival! This is the second time running this event and with the recent lock downs I believe it will be a great turn out and some exciting racing! We are always on the look out for volunteers - especially COVID marshals. Being a COVID marshal allows you to watch the competition. If you are interested please fill out the link here

North Steyne will have five crews competing, including our junior Female and Male crews on the Saturday and Sunday we have the A team, Buccaneers and Tigerlillies competing - the crews have all been busy training in the gym and out on the water. You may even see a crew out on the water if you are out early or check out instagram for some great shots by local photographers.

This is one of our largest fundraisers for the club so any help will be really appreciated. A special thanks to Dave Maguire, Mike Bernerius and Col Stanford for their support and mentoring the junior crews. Good luck also to the A team for the next round of Ocean Thunder on 30 January.

Nippers @ NS

We hope everyone had an enjoyable and moreover safe break given the covid outbreak and northern beaches lockdown over Christmas and New Year, which unfortunately played havoc with our end of year plans, leading us to cancel our Christmas party and reschedule the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) assessment for our Under 14 group.

Nippers returned on Sunday 10th January, the sun was shining bright and there were smiles all round!

Congratulations to the North Steyne Junior Lifesaver of the Year (JLOTY) nominees Emilie Morris and Oskar Townsin-Brant, pictured below, who were selected from a number of candidates in our under 14 age group based on a detailed written proposal demonstrating their contribution to and understanding of Surf Life Saving, and an original initiative within the organisation to improve service to the community and member experience.

Emilie and Oskar will attend a series of workshops at Northern Beaches Branch to develop their proposals and will present these to the Branch and hopefully State level award panels. We wish them the best of luck with their presentations!
