What’s the Big Idea: A Game Show Featuring Students and Mathematicians

Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 (1:00 – 2:30 pm EST)

  • Join the student judges as they — and you! — vote on how well each mathematician conveys a big idea in math. Every vote counts, so come ready to listen and play along.

  • The contest organizers hope this competition calls attention to culturally responsive, grounding, and sustaining approaches to engage young people with mathematics.

  • The Young People’s Project (YPP) uses Math Literacy Work to develop the abilities of elementary through high school students. Students become engaged citizens prepared to make a difference in their own lives, in the lives of others in their communities, and ultimately in this country.

We will be using Hopin + Kahoot for this highly interactive event. As a result, it requires a separate registration outside of the NMF Live Performance Series. We hope you join us!

Witches of Agnesi Play Performance
(Pre-Recorded) and Panel Discussion (Live)

Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 (1:00 – 2:30 pm EST)

Witches of Agnesi is a play that brings together three women mathematicians from three centuries in a mysterious meeting place outside of ordinary time and space, where they share a pot of tea and tell the stories of their lives and careers. This play should leave you with ideas about the important work women mathematicians do, and questions about why women have faced so many barriers.

Witches of Agnesi is part of the NMF Live Performance Series. If you haven’t already, register today for free on Eventbrite.
