Glittering MAFS Gala That Sparkled Worldwide... 
Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS) celebrated its 28 years of service to the senior community, at a Virtual Gala on Saturday, December 19,2020. Illinois State Governor J. B. Pritzker headlined the event and paid glowing tributes to MAFSand its Founder and Executive Director - Dr. Santosh Kumar. Governor Pritzker's participation was truly appreciated as this was the only Indian-American Event the Governor took part in in 2020. Director of Illinois Department of Aging (IDOA) - Paula Basta, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, India's Consul General at Chicago Amit Kumar, State Representative Michelle Mussman, and Mayor of Hanover Park Rodney Craig, praised the work of MAFS particularly during this pandemic for the seniors. A grand performance by Mr. Anup Jalota and Indra Naik Live from India.
Metropolitan Asian Family Services celebrated 28 years of relentless service to the senior community, at a Spectacular Virtual Gala on Saturday December 19, 2020.

Illinois State Governor J. B. Pritzker headlined the event and paid glowing tributes to MAFS and its Founder and Executive Director - Dr. Santosh Kumar. Governor Pritzker’s participation was truly appreciated as this was the only Indian American Event the Governor took part in 2020.

Paula Basta, Director of Illinois Department of Aging (IDOA) - Paula Basta, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, India’s Consul General at Chicago Honorable Amit Kumar, State Representative Michelle Mussman and Mayor of Hanover Park Rodney Craig, praised the unparalleled work of MAFS particularly during this pandemic for the seniors. Also present with the dignitaries was Mr. Phillip Lanier of Age Options. Community Leader & Chairman of Global Strategic Alliance Dr. Vijay G. Prabhakar introduced Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle as The Iron Lady of America. President Toni Preckwinkle while delivering the Presidential Address, traced the growth Of MAFS from 1992. The dignitaries saluted MAFS for the exemplary work among the seniors especially during this Pandemic.

Dr Firdaus Jaffri, MAFS Board President gave the welcome address. Dr. Santosh Kumar, Visionary, Founder of MAFS, in her opening remarks welcomed and thanked all for dignitaries for their support. She summarized all the beneficial MAFS programs available to the community members and outlined the 2021 new initiatives. She described all the praiseworthy precautionary measures her organizations are taking during this Pandemic, to keep the community seniors and the staff safe. Following her speech, MAFS’s Sagar Kumar presented The Annual Report. MAFS Secretary Major Rakesh Asthana highlighted MAFS’s ongoing work during this Pandemic.

Board President Dr. Firdaus Jaffri and MAFS Founder Dr. Santosh Kumar presented the prestigious MAFS Community Service Award to Dr Sarada Sonty, Co-Founder of Sapna, Author & Community Activist. The Pramod Kumar Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Dr. Vemuri Murthy, Founder Of Illinois Saving Lives Program And Chairman Of Chicago Medical Society. This award is given to a person of extraordinary abilities and achievements that reflected the ideals & work of the Late Shri Pramod Kumar, Co-Founder Of MAFS and husband Of Dr. Santosh Kumar. Late Shri Pramod Kumar fondly referred as the gentle giant with a Heart Of Gold and a scientific intelligent outlook that propelled him to one of the top Business Tycoons in the Metal And Brass Industry in the USA. The success of the growth of MAFS today is largely due to his constant support of Dr. Santosh Kumar and his continuous generous contributions to MAFS over the years. Currently, we remember him and salute his indefatigable efforts. Partnership Award was given to Steve Koustsonicolis managing partner of Steeplechase, a certified public accounting firm providing traditional audit and tax services.
 
Our very own seniors showcased an unbelievable, colorful, and brilliant Virtual show to entertain the viewers. The Seniors' performances began with a rocking show by Niles Adult Day Care Young Seniors Mr. Ayub And Mrs. Nargis Younus Performing On "Woh Ladki Hai Kaha".
 
Schaumburg ADS seniors and staff performed "Tippani" a folk dance from the chorwad Region Of Saurashtra Gujarat. Our young participants are Surya Mehta,  Saroj Topiwala, Nirmala Topiwala, Sudha Gandhi, Shard Patel, Chandrika Modi, Usha Soni, Kancha Shah.
 
Naperville ADS senior Tabassum Rabbini stunned everyone with her performance while she danced gracefully for a Bollywood Number - "Inhi Logo Nein" from the movie "Pakeezah".

An Innovative and peppy performance "Senorita" by the Vernon Hills ADS seniors over Zoom showcased how our staff has adapted technology to fit today's scenario. The young participants were, Madhu Mathur, Mohinder Jafra, Manjula Verma, Harjinder Kaur, Krishnakath Gandhi, Jivantika Gandhi, Indumati Barot, Pravesh Kulshreshtha; Dinesh Kulshreshtha; Harnam Singh; Pushpa Bhagwakar.

Legendary Singer Anup Jalota added delight by joining the MAFS 28th Annual Gala Live from Mumbai. His songs were so melodious and soulful. Thank You, Dr. Santosh Kumar, Mr. Jalota, Dr. Firdaus Jaffri, Mr. Rakesh Asthana and MAFS Board for bringing such an awesome singer to all of us. Sufi Singer Indira Naik in spite of her personal tragedy, enthralled the audience virtually from India.
 
Dr. Santosh Kumar awarded all her best employees. Dr. Santosh Kumar commended our Schaumburg Location Manager Dipti Shah for her selfless contribution to put together this spectacular event also, Roshita Pandey, Grant Manager for her competent compere of the event and her skillful work and contribution to MAFS. Dr. Santosh Kumar applauded the IT team for their incomparable work to put together such a fantastic show. A special mention to our Chicago Manager, Mr. Shrenik Dalal who was a pillar of strength during COVID-19 with his gallant work!
 
The show then ended with Mrs Kumar’s appreciation speech that revealed her immeasurable gratitude for all the dignitaries who attended, The Frontline Workers, The Seniors, Her Staff and All the Supporters Of MAFS!

MAFS Hindi Academy-Learning India's Official Language Made Easy
Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS), in furtherance of its persevered community service efforts to spread India’s Official Language, Hindi to everyone, has taken a valuable step to launch MAFS Hindi Academy. It is a natural progression of its already existing literacy programs which have been running for many years.
 
MAFS Hindi academy has been formed as a non-profit volunteer organization to promote and preserve Hindi language at the grass root level. Teaching Hindi language will also be geared towards all individuals including seniors and Children from any community who aspire to learn Hindi 
 
Mrs. Santosh Kumar, The Founder and Executive Director of MAFS said that “the Indian culture, its heritage and traditions are very much tied with Hindi and by promoting Hindi the Indian ‘essence’ will live on in the next  generation. Hindi is an official language of India (Article 343 of Indian Constitution) and the second most spoken language in the world. Its rich grammar, vocabulary and wide aesthetic appeal motivates Hindi academy volunteers to help preserve it”

Mr. Kishor Mehta, Dean of MAFS Hindi Academy added that “To do this, we will have well defined syllabus and practical ways to implement it. The syllabus and teaching methodologies in current situation will be online instruction through zoom and will be reviewed periodically to provide optimum benefits to the students.”
 
The first Ten weeks ‘Certification program in Hindi Proficiency (CHHP – 100)’ Virtual course for the beginners will Start on December 5, 2020.
