Welcome to our Jan 2021 newsletter!

The new year has kicked off and now is the time to get sowing your alpine seeds so they get the chill they need to sprout!

Many folks have received seed from the AGS seed exchange… and we have a nice surprise for you: Diane Clement, Director of the Seed Exchange, is coming to deliver a virtual talk on sowing alpine seeds!

Want to Grow Alpines from Seed?

Diane Clement has been the Director of the AGS Seed Exchange for 10 years! She’s hugely passionate and knowledgeable about growing from seed.

She’s giving her her ‘Alpines from Seed’ on 26th Jan at 19:30 (GMT) which will include practical tips on seed sowing and tricks to shorten the germination process (which, for some alpines can be years otherwise! So hooray!). The talk is free to all AGS members, so come and join us! Find out more here.

Come and Discover Snowdrops!

It is, of course, also snowdrop season! And to celebrate, we have a fabulous talk on snowdrops by the acclaimed Michael Myers.

Michael has been growing snowdrops since the 1980s and is a veritable treasure trove of information about them. He’s also an accomplished speaker and lecturer in horticulture at Craven College, so this is not one to miss!

This month, we’ve also launched our Small Alpine Conservation Projects Grants for small-scale alpine projects that help to conserve these fabulous plants. The deadline is 28th February, so apply now for your chance at funding!
