God's peace in your home
My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places,
Isaiah 32:18 - NKJV
When our children were small we moved into a house which was not in one of the nicer areas of town. The social situation in the area wasn't great. It disturbed us so we prayed and looked to the Lord for His guidance. The leading we received was to do a Jericho march. Each evening for seven evenings we walked as a family around our area and prayed peace to prevail there. In the months and years that followed the area changed dramatically. Our dwelling became a secure one, our resting place quiet and our habitation peaceful.
We have a wonderful promise for our dwellings in the scripture above. I want you to recognise something about it. Before the prophet Isaiah gives God's word related to peace and our habitation, he first presents God's word about peace and our person. The Lord declares that quietness and assurance is an effect of righteousness. Peace is a work of righteousness. It is the presence of God's gift of righteousness in our lives which establishes for us an internal condition of peace. External conditions of peace follow on from that establishment of peace on the inside of us. Isa.32:17.
We brought up our children in the Christian faith. We shared with them the knowledge of God's love for us in Christ Jesus. We daily prayed with them and shared God's word with them. They saw prayer answered and experienced the peace of the Gospel in our home. Now they have left home and have home's of their own. Their homes can be described as "peaceful habitations." So let's realise that besides pursuing external peace, every Christian home needs the peace of the Gospel lived out in the daily life of the family unit that lives there. Rom.5:1.
Draw on God's peace for the sake of all those around you!
