With HyFlex 2.0 for Spring 2021, how are students expected to attend face-to-face classes?
In face-to-face courses, students are expected to attend either face-to-face or online (via Zoom links provided in Canvas) at the assigned course time (synchronously). This is a change from Fall 2020. Students who need to attend asynchronously due to special circumstances will require special permission from the instructor.
How will my students know when to attend face-to-face and when to attend online?
Prior to the first class day, make sure to let your students know which class days they are to attend class face-to-face. Locate room capacity numbers here.
How will the class recordings work within Canvas?
Each Zoom meeting will be automatically recorded once launched from the Canvas links. Course recordings will be available to faculty once the class meeting concludes, but students will not have access unless granted by the instructor. See instructions regarding how to grant students access to course recordings here.
Are there privacy concerns with the class recordings?
Class recordings can only be shared with the students (if circumstances require) enrolled in that course to maintain students’ privacy as required by FERPA.
How will classroom technology work?
Instructors will need to use lapel microphones and the pan-tilt-Zoom cameras to project to students who attend online. See instructions for using the classroom technology here. We advise instructors to visit their classrooms and test out the classroom technology prior to the first day.
What should I expect of my students?
Students are required to complete training through Canvas prior to attending class. When attending class face-to-face, students are required to wear face coverings and should sit in seats that have been designated as available in classrooms. Faculty should take attendance in each face-to-face course meeting for contact tracing purposes.
Are there resources or training available to help?
Be sure to read through the faculty HyFlex handbook and encourage your students to consult the student HyFlex handbook. See the CEE calendar for upcoming training related to HyFlex and all other CEE events.
Who can I contact for help if needed?
CEE is here to help! Contact hyflex@tarleton.edu for immediate needs as well as your college instructional designer (see below for contact info) or college HyFlex ambassador.
