February 8: NYS Community Schools Advocacy Day

Please join the New York State Community Schools Network for the 6th annual New York State Community Schools Advocacy Day. This year, the event will take place virtually on February 8th.

On Advocacy Day, you will have the opportunity to show your support for community schools by:

  • Calling and/or emailing your representatives in the NYS Senate and Assembly.
  • Joining us on Twitter using #NYSCommunitySchools.
  • Participating in a legislative briefing on community schools at 5pm.

Call scripts, email templates, and sample tweets will be provided to all registrants.

Federal 2021 Full-Service Community Schools Competition Open Now

The federal 2021 Full-Service Community Schools competition for new awards was announced on January 15th. Awards are estimated to range from $275,000 to $500,000 for each twelve month period, up to five years. A total of $13.7 million is available nationwide. A pre-application webinar will be held on January 27th at 2pm EST. Applications are due by March 1, 2021.

February 9 - 11: Community Schools Fundamentals Conference

The National Center for Community Schools at Children’s Aid presents the virtual edition of the Community Schools Fundamentals Conference, a learning experience designed specifically for those new or relatively new to community schools. Now more than ever, community schools are the right strategy to support students, families, and neighborhoods.  They’ll share lessons learned from over 25 years of implementation in New York City and nationwide capacity building, as well as promising practices emerging from the COVID era. In addition to attending a virtual school visit to a Children’s Aid community school, participants will learn about the foundations and the updated “nuts and bolts” of community school practice.

Join this virtual journey to deepen your understanding of community schools and network with other school and community leaders from across the country!

June 1 - 4: National Family & Community Engagement Conference

This year's hybrid convening, hosted by the Institute for Educational Leadership, will highlight the great work being done by The School District of Philadelphia. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in pre-conference sessions, four plenary sessions, over 70 workshops, and more. Content will be organized across the following strands: 
  • Parent Leadership, Advocacy and Community Organizing
  • Promote Inclusion, Ensure Equity and Create Opportunity
  • Integrated Systemic Approaches
  • Early Learning and Literacy
  • Relationship Building and Trust
  • Research, Evaluation, and Data Collection
