CUMC will Sound Bells

today in memory of lives lost to Covid-19

At 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time and 5:30 p.m. Pacific time Claremont UMC will join the Covid-19 National Moment of Unity and Remembrance. Across the country individuals are asked to put a light or candle in a window. Churches have been asked to ring their bells. At the front of our property, will play the sound of bells tolling, joining this national remembrance.

We mourn the loss of 400,000 lives in our country and more than 2 million worldwide. We pray for the families of those who died, including families in our own congregation.

At 2:30 p.m. today, Jan. 19, we will play the sound of bells tolling near the Foothill Display site, joining churches in our community and throughout the country. The City of Claremont has asked churches to sound them again at 5:30 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m.  will reignite some of our luminaria from Advent and Christmas along Foothill Blvd, in memory of lives lost and in vigil for country and the world. And we will sound the bells again.

If you have a bell in your home, consider standing outside your door and ringing it at either time or both 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Light a candle, offer a prayer of remembrance and hope, and pray for our nation and the world.

Please note: Out of an abundance of caution in these uncertain times, we will close the entire CUMC campus on Jan. 20, including the preschool.

May the Spirit of Peace prevail.

In prayer and care,
Rev. Karen
